Players who are disconnected from Marathon will receive an error message that may contain an error code at the bottom. Each error code indicates a different type of disconnection and is used to help Bungie, platform partners, and players track what is causing impacted players to lose connectivity with the game.

Types of Error Codes

Most error messages that players may encounter while playing Marathon will fall into one of two categories of error codes: Platform Error Codes or Marathon Error Codes. The type of error code that a player is encountering will determine the best source of support and troubleshooting steps.

Platform Error Codes

Players may occasionally encounter a platform error code when playing Marathon or during the installation process. These are most often a string of numbers and/or letters. To troubleshoot these errors, please contact the proper platform support site:

Marathon Error Codes

Players may occasionally encounter a Marathon error code when playing Marathon or during the installation process. These are most often a single English word for an animal, plant, or musical instrument, such as WEASEL, MARIONBERRY, or BANJO.

Basic Troubleshooting Steps

The basic steps for troubleshooting a Marathon Error Code are dependent on the types and frequency of the Error Code that is being encountered.
 

Single Disconnect from an Error Code Multiple Disconnects from the Same Error Code Multiple Disconnects from Different Error Codes Multiple Disconnects that Follow a Pattern

Players who have received a single disconnect from an error code should close and restart the Marathon application on their platform. If players continue to encounter error codes after restarting Marathon, they should follow the troubleshooting steps in the sections below.
