Before continuing, players should check to see if there are known service outages that may impact their ability to connect to Marathon:

Error Codes: Disconnected From Marathon

If players are disconnected from Marathon, they will receive a message that contains an error code that may be used as a reference to search for specific troubleshooting suggestions. Each error code indicates a different type of disconnection and is used to help impacted players, Bungie, and the platform partners track what is causing players to lose connectivity with the game.

Please view our Error Codes article for more information and basic troubleshooting steps.

Connection Recovery: Disconnected During Gameplay

When you are in the middle of a high-stakes run, losing your network connection can lead to a life or death situation. If you crash or get disconnected, your shell will remain in the game world, and can be protected by your crew. Just remain calm, restart your network connection if needed, and launch back into the game to reconnect to your shell and complete your run.

In the event that an error occurs with Bungie’s server or network infrastructure, connection recovery may not be possible. We will attempt to ensure that any players affected by a server error will have their starting gear returned to them.

Note: Gear refund only applies to a subset of server error conditions, and will not cover gameplay losses due to Internet connectivity or client-side problems.

Network Setup: Wi-Fi vs. Wired Connections

Marathon is an online game that requires a constant and stable internet connection to play. For the best experience, Bungie strongly recommends a wired internet connection, as Wi-Fi connections may lead to signal strength and stability issues.

For more information about connection requirements, how to improve your WiFi connectivity, or what kind of issues you could face when connected through WiFi, please check this guide.
