Voice Communications

Marathon uses a default communication device separate from your default audio device. This allows players to better customize their communication experiences.

  • For console players, this defaults to your controller.
  • For Windows players, this is your Default Windows Communication device.  You can view and change this at any time by navigating to Social Settings.  If your expected device isn't showing up, please check your PC device and sound settings.
    • Default Device – Your headphones or speakers
    • Default Communications Device – Your microphone or audio input device

PC Players with audio device issues:

If you need to adjust your audio devices, you will need to do so directly through your PC device settings.

  • For Windows 10/11: Hit Windows Key + R: type: mmsys.cpl and hit enter to bring up your sound devices.

  • Find your preferred device, make sure it's set to both "Default" and "Communications Device" for both the Playback & Recording tabs.
  • This works for all versions of Windows.

Proximity Chat Settings

If you would like to use this feature you will need to enable it via the Social settings in-game if you didn't enable it during the first time you launched Marathon.

  • This setting can also be updated in Run:
    • From your Inventory Screen or the Game Menu, locate the Quick Proximity Chat Toggle on the right half of the bottom UI Bar.

NOTE: You will still see nearby enemy Prox Chat activity in your HUD with it disabled.

Be sure to check your keybinds as you will need to use push to talk to broadcast your voice in Proximity Chat. Crew voice chat can utilize the open mic setting.

  • Default for ⌨️🖱️: Y (push & hold to talk)
  • Default for 🎮: D-Pad Right
