Unable to find matches with two specific teammates

So I have a very strange issue. Whenever I have two specific people in my fireteam, we can never find matches, no matter who is crew leader.

If I play with them separately, we find games no problem.

If it's one of them + any other person on my friends list, no issue.

Those two can also not find matches in duo queue either.

I have absolutely no idea where to even begin to troubleshoot or figure out why this would be happening.

    Hi there,

    Thanks for reaching out.

A few things you and your two friends can try together to troubleshoot the matchmaking between you:

    1. Check regions & platforms
    • Confirm all three of you are in similar regions (e.g., all NA/EU) and not using VPNs that might put you in very different locations.
    • Have everyone fully close any VPNs or “gaming network accelerators” and then try queueing again.

    1. Swap leaders and queues
    • Try each of you as the crew leader in trio queue.
    • Then have the two affected friends try duo again with each one as leader.
    • Note which combinations “Searching…” forever vs. which give an error (timeout, etc.).

    1. Quick network checks for both affected players
    • Power-cycle modem and router (unplug 30–60 seconds, plug back in).
    • Make sure their platform’s NAT is not Strict (Open/Moderate is best).
    • Temporarily disable any extra firewall/security software and test once.
  • Hi there, thanks for the reply.

We've gone through those steps over several hours of various troubleshooting without success.

No VPNs are in use. The crew leader will usually get error code Oregano, while the other party members will get error code Garlic.

Whats strange is that our third can be any other person in any region, with no issues. It's only specifically when our third will result in these specific two people being in the same team.

    So to summarise:

    Me

    Friend 1
    Friend 2

    Cannot find match

    Me
    Friend 1
    Any other person
    Can find matches

    Me
    Friend 2
    Any other person
    Can find matches

    Friend 1

    Friend 2
    Any other person

    Cannot find matches

  • Hi there,

Thanks for trying the troubleshooting and letting me know what exact combinations do and don’t work.

For context, when your leader sees OREGANO and the others see GARLIC, it means: matchmaking failed for the leader, and the rest of the crew is then kicked out as a side-effect of the leader’s failure, so they get GARLIC instead.

If this error is seen frequently, we recommend you refer to our Network Troubleshooting Guide for troubleshooting steps. We also have an Advanced Troubleshooting Guide. If those don't help, the next step would be checking our Optimizing Connections page.

  • Hi there, thanks for that.

We can confirm that the network troubleshooting guide and optimizing connections guides have not resolved the issue and the players are still unable to find a game when in the same team.
