Unable to load into a game since Season 2, Error code ginger -> Error code weasel every single time

I'm pretty sure I have a hardware issue with my SSD because games like ARC Raiders and Marathon always load in very slowly. With Marathon the game takes about 5 minutes to open, and then the first time I load into a game it will fail to connect and send me back to lobby. This has been consistent since the game launched in March. After failing to connect one time I will then be able to queue up normally and play. However since about a week into season 2, after failing to connect, it will then disconnect me from Marathon servers with Error Code Weasel and I will not be able to reconnect again. I haven't been able to play Marathon in almost 2 weeks, because I can never load in without it disconnecting me constantly. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game, updated my drivers, restarted wifi/PC multiple times, run as administrator, verify integrity of game files, updated my OS from windows 10 to windows 11. There's just no solution available to me at this point, I can't play Marathon anymore.

    Hi there,

    Thanks for reaching out.

Error Code GINGER occurs when another player gets disconnected from matchmaking to prevent your crew from entering a match without enough players. Error code: WEASEL typically signifies you’re encountering a broad networking problem. We recommend you refer to our Network Troubleshooting Guide to explore potential solutions to your problem. We also have an Advanced Troubleshooting Guide, if the Network Troubleshooting Guide did not help.

Based on what you described regarding your SSD, the very slow startup could point to a local performance or storage problem, but the repeated disconnects and Error Code Weasel sound more like a connection issue rather than something caused only by the SSD.

If you are able to, the main things I would suggest trying next are:

    • Test the game from a different internal SSD, if your PC has one available
    • Check that the SSD has plenty of free space and is reporting healthy status
    • Try one session on a different connection, such as wired internet or a mobile hotspot, just to see whether the behavior changes
    • Make sure any VPN or antivirus is fully disabled while testing
  • Going to fix this bungie? People want to play your game
