Intermittent YAM Error W:8:00002EE2 After Several Hours of Play

Hello Bungie Support,

I am experiencing a recurring and intermittent connection issue in Marathon.

The game usually works perfectly for several hours with no noticeable connection problems. Then, at some point, the connection suddenly starts degrading.

Before the full disconnect happens, I repeatedly get spammed with the following warning at the top of the screen:

“Contacting Marathon servers…”

Once this starts appearing, the connection usually continues to deteriorate until I eventually get disconnected completely and Marathon becomes unavailable.

The final error displayed is:

Error code: YAM
Additional information: W:8:00002EE2

The message displayed is:

“Marathon servers are not available. Dismiss this message to try again.”

The important point is that this is not a constant issue. I can play normally for several hours without any problem. Then, suddenly:

  1. The “Contacting Marathon servers…” message starts appearing repeatedly.
  2. The connection becomes unstable.
  3. I eventually get disconnected.
  4. I receive the YAM / W:8:00002EE2 error and cannot properly access Marathon services.

There is no obvious issue when initially launching the game, and everything can work normally for a long period before the problem appears.

Because of this behavior, it seems more like an intermittent server communication, routing, session, or connectivity issue rather than something permanently blocking the game locally.

I have screenshots showing both the repeated “Contacting Marathon servers…” warning and the final YAM error.

Could you please investigate what specifically causes W:8:00002EE2, and whether it may be related to Marathon server communication, session handling, network routing, or another backend connectivity issue?

Please also let me know what logs, network diagnostics, or other information I can provide to help identify the cause.

Thank you.

    Hi there,

    Thank you for reaching out.

Error code Yam happens when your anti-virus is blocking Marathon's connection to your computer.

You can work around this by either disabling your anti-virus when Marathon and BattlEye are running or by adding those programs to your anti-virus' allow list.

We also recommend reviewing our Advanced Troubleshooting: UPnP, Port Forwarding, and NAT Types guide for additional solutions.

  • I have no anti virus activated. I played 500+ hours without changing anything.

  • Hi again,

Since you do not have antivirus on while playing and because you’re seeing “Contacting Marathon servers…” followed by Weasel, this may be a temporary network connection issue. Error code: Weasel typically signifies you’re encountering a broad networking problem.

Could you please try the following:

    • Use a wired connection instead of Wi-Fi, if you aren't already using one.
    • Restart your modem/router and the game.
    • Temporarily turn off any VPN or internet security features or software.
    • Test Marathon using a different network, such as a mobile hotspot, to compare the results.

Additionally, if you keep encountering the red banner on the bottom of the screen followed by the Weasel error code, we would recommend you refer to our Network Troubleshooting Guide for additional troubleshooting to see if it helps resolve the issue.
