Issie with connecting (WEASEL)

Hello Marathon Support,

I am experiencing a persistent WEASEL error that started suddenly on June 27, 2026. Before that, the game had been working flawlessly since launch.

Issue description

  • I can launch the game normally.
  • Sometimes I am able to play several matches.
  • Eventually, while joining a match, I receive a WEASEL error.
  • After the first WEASEL error, I become stuck in a loop:
    • "Contacting Marathon Servers..."
    • WEASEL
    • Return to title screen
  • From that point, I cannot log back into the game.

Troubleshooting already completed

Network

  • Tested on wired fiber connection (Ethernet).
  • Tested on a completely different network using a 5G mobile hotspot.
  • Same result on both networks.

Devices

  • Windows PC (Steam).
  • ASUS ROG Ally X.
  • Same issue on both devices.

Steam

  • Steam logs in successfully.
  • Steam connectivity is normal.
  • No authentication errors in Steam logs.
  • Steam account is correctly linked to my Bungie account.

BattlEye

  • BattlEye starts correctly.
  • No BattlEye errors.
  • No BattlEye logs indicating failures.

Local files

  • Verified game files through Steam.
  • Marathon does not generate any crash logs or client logs on my system.
  • Only preference files exist in:
    AppData\Roaming\Bungie\Marathon\prefs

Bungie account

  • I can log into Bungie.net successfully.
  • Steam account linkage is present and correct.

Additional information

The problem started suddenly after previously working without issues since launch.

Because the issue occurs:

  • on multiple devices,
  • on multiple internet connections,
  • after successful Steam authentication,
  • and specifically during "Contacting Marathon Servers...",

I suspect this may be related to my Marathon account/session on the backend rather than a local network issue.

Could you please check whether my account/session is stuck or whether there are any backend errors associated with it?

    Thanks for reaching out!

    We're seeing a rise in reports about Error Code: WEASEL occurring and are currently investigating.

    In the meantime, please make sure your Windows is fully updated and if all else fails, please refer to our Network Troubleshooting Guide for troubleshooting in case this is a proper Weasel error caused by network issues.
