Comm Issues

I have tried verifying game files but I have noticed any time I am downed I can not talk to teammates in game and I can not hear them. After the match ends and we're back in lobby, they start working again. Recently, this issue has happened without getting downed. Randomly in the middle of a match all comms will drop out. Please help!

    Hi there,

    Thanks for reaching out.

If you haven't already, please see our Audio and Voice Troubleshooting guide for tips on configuring your audio setup for Marathon.

If that guide doesn't help, please let us know the following:

    • Your platform

    • When you first encountered this audio issue (approximate date)
    • Your headset/audio device model

    • Whether the device is Bluetooth

    • Whether it is single-channel or dual-channel

    • Whether this happens only when downed, or also randomly mid-match

    • Whether you can still hear teammates in the lobby after the match

  • I have checked my default audio settings and confirmed setup for marathong.

    Platform - Steam

First encounter - 2 weeks post launch

Headset - logitech GPro X wired

    No Bluetooth

    Dual Channel

Happens when downed and randomly - so both

Comms begin working again once party is in lobby.

  • Hi again,

    Thanks for the information.

Since voice chat works in the lobby but cuts out during a match, please try the following:

    • In Marathon, make sure Voice Chat is on, the correct output device is selected, and the voice/crew/proximity volumes are above 0.

    • In Windows, press Win + R, type mmsys.cpl, and set your headset/mic as both the Default Device and Default Communications Device under Playback and Recording.

    • Disable any unused playback/recording devices in Windows so chat audio does not route to the wrong device.

    • Check Windows Microphone Privacy Settings and make sure Marathon is allowed to access the microphone.

    • If you changed any network settings, set MTU back to Automatic/default. If it was set manually, it should be at least 1419, with 1500 recommended.

One other thing to test: if your mic is active while loading into a run, voice chat may fail for that match. Try muting your mic before the match loads, then unmuting once you are fully in-game.

If it still happens after that, please send us:

    • Whether Discord, OBS, VoiceMeeter, or other virtual audio software is running

    • A short video showing the mic/chat icons before and after comms stop working

    • Whether this happens only with crew chat or also with proximity chat

Please use your platform's capture button to take a video. You can upload the footage to a public video hosting site, like YouTube, then post the link here and we’ll be glad to take a look.
