Guide for Marathon Community Rewards

To highlight players who share their Marathon art or video creations on social media, Bungie's Community and Social Team has created Marathon Community Rewards.

Marathon players may receive certain in-game community rewards if their creations, like fan art or video montages, are highlighted on Marathon's official social media channels.

If you see your creation shared by a Marathon The Game or Marathon Dev Team account, you are eligible to receive an in-game community reward, which can include emblems, backgrounds, weapon stickers, weapon charms, and more.

See below for available categories and rewards. More rewards will be available in the future, and we'll let you know when that happens!

NOTE: Any in-game reward granted as part of Bungie's Community Highlights program will be granted directly into your account, has no monetary value, and cannot be sold or transferred to another person.

#MarathonART

Bungie's Community and Social Team will often share art created by the community on Marathon's official social media channels. From fanart to cosplay, and everything in between, we love highlighting this community's creativity.

Players who wish to nominate their creations for consideration should follow these steps:

  1. Create a piece of static art inspired by Marathon.
    • Fanart, cosplay, crafted goods, 3D blenders, plushies, and much more would fit in this category.
  2. Upload the image asset to TikTok, YouTube, Bluesky, Twitter, Instagram, Discord and/or Reddit.

Please note that there are a lot of entries checked for #MarathonART, and sometimes we save one to highlight in the future. Your creation might not win the day it was published, but it may win in the following weeks.

Vital Information

  • Including #MarathonART in the submission is strongly encouraged and helps us identify your content as an opt-in to the Community Highlights program. Submissions identified without a hashtag may still be featured, but Bungie will first need to contact the creator for consent before sharing.
  • Winners are determined on a case-by-case basis by the Community Team.
  • Up to 3 players can be included in each submission. All 3 players' Bungie Names, including numbers, must be present at the time of original submission.
    • Bungie Names added after the original upload are ineligible to receive rewards for that submission.
  • In-game rewards are granted manually and should be expected to arrive within 30 days of the highlight on Marathon's social media channels.
  • There is no limit to the number of submissions a player can create.
  • The same submission may be shared across multiple social platforms.
  • Any usage of Generative AI is not allowed and will lead to an automatic disqualification, even if we initially shared your submission.
  • Your account must be in good standing to receive the reward. If we discover your account has broken the Code of Conduct, we reserve the right to revoke your win and take appropriate action on your Bungie account.

#MarathonVID

Bungie's Community and Social Team will often share videos created by the community on Marathon's official social media channels, highlighting great in-game moments and embracing our player base's creativity.

Players who wish to nominate their video for consideration should follow these steps:

  1. Create a video inspired by Marathon.
    • Gameplay (provided all identifiable voices have consented, or are incidental and non-identifiable), commentary, animated art, a puppet show, and much more would fit in this category.
  2. Upload the video to TikTok, YouTube, Bluesky, Twitter, Instagram, Discord and/or Reddit.

Please note that there are a lot of entries checked for #MarathonVID, and sometimes we save one to highlight in the future. Your creation might not win the day it was published, but it may win in the following weeks.

Vital Information

  • Including #MarathonVID in the submission is strongly encouraged and helps us identify your content as an opt-in to the Community Highlights program. Submissions identified without a hashtag may still be featured, but Bungie will first need to contact the creator for consent before sharing.
  • Winners are determined on a case-by-case basis by the Community Team.
  • Up to 7 players can be included in each submission. All 7 players' Bungie Names, including numbers, must be present at the time of original submission.
    • Bungie Names added after the original upload are ineligible to receive rewards for that submission.

Considerations for Community Submissions

  • By tagging a Bungie or Marathon account on your post, or by using the #MarathonART and/or #MarathonVID hashtags, we assume your consent to grant Bungie a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to repost or share your clip on Marathon’s social media accounts.
    • Bungie will not knowingly include any identifiable personal information of the players included in the clips, including the personal information of non-posting players, including but not limited to game usernames, profile photos, or recognizable voices. Bungie may share the poster’s social media username as part of a “repost” within Marathon’s social channels.
    • Bungie will not knowingly repost or share clips that contain an identifiable minor. If we become aware that a submission may include a minor, we will remove such post.
    • If you want your creation to be removed from our social channels, don't hesitate to contact us. We can be contacted in our Help Forum and can also be reached across our official Marathon and Bungie social media platforms.
  • One of our goals with user-generated content is to highlight fun, exciting, and community-building moments. Keep that in mind when submitting your creations!
    • If you use harsh language, it might be impossible for us to share it with other players.
    • In certain instances, we may choose to censor language to fit our ESRB rating.
    • Clips that portray other players in a negative/disparaging light may not be shared.
    • Any hate speech will disqualify a submission.
  • The original poster takes priority for any rewards, not participants.
    • Sometimes it's hard to validate who has done what, so if you want your friends that helped you get rewards, be sure to share what they have done and that their contributions were essential.
      • We will investigate and validate all members in a submission, and we reserve the right to not grant a reward without further explanation.
      • Posting various points of view in a video submission helps!
  • Bungie reserves the right to implement a pre-publication review process for all user-generated content before it is shared on official channels. This review will assess compliance with these guidelines, including user-identifying information, minor protection, and content appropriateness.
  • We validate entries and posts on a case-by-case basis. Our process includes Bungie's Community Team, but might also involve others. We never pick entries based on a single person's opinion; it's always a team effort.
  • We may not be able to share your creation if it includes intellectual property not owned by Bungie or Sony Interactive Entertainment, or if it contains content that could infringe third-party rights (including third-party music, characters, artwork, logos, footage, or game assets).
    • This does not mean you cannot rely on fair use principles to take inspiration from copyrighted works, or create your own interpretation of them.
      • For example: there is an important distinction between simply copying and placing an existing ‘superhero’ into a Marathon setting and creating an original fan art that draws inspiration from that character, such as using a similar color scheme or combining certain traits of said character with elements of a Marathon character.

Intellectual Property and Trademarks

Bungie strongly supports the efforts of our community to produce non-commercial content using video images, footage, music, sounds, dialogue, or other assets from our games, subject to a few conditions. These creations can be freely shared with other players in places like social media and YouTube. In the event that creators seek to profit from their work, they should see the guidelines in the Intellectual Property and Trademarks guide.
