ingame voicechat does not work. proximity or crew

ingame voice chat has not worked since day 1. didnt work on server slam , doesnt work now. I have reported this issue before and my posts are ignored, and have yet to see anything being done to fix it. the initial "fix" that helped everyone else did not fix my issue. I can speak and be heard as confirmed in text chat. I cannot hear a single person speaking. not crew, not proximity. I have proximity chat turned on. I have tried turning it on and off again and back on. no luck. I have multiple headsets i switch between, I have tried directly selecting the headset, i have tried using the windows default. Nothing works. Please fix this. I cannot reliably do fill groups because i cannot speak with my teammates. Please fix this.

    Hi!

Thanks for posting this. I'm sorry to hear you're having troubles with in-game voice chat. Just checking the obvious, have you tried the steps in our Audio and Voice Troubleshooting page to solve this issue?

If you have and you still can't hear your teammates through Voice Chat, please let me know so I can have the dev team look closer into this.

    Thanks!

  • yes i have tried all the steps listed and still cannot hear other people speaking. i see the hud showing the individuals name and the speaker icon next to it and it shows as though people are talking and through text chat i have confirmed this. this also goes for crew chat as well.i can see the notifications that they are speaking but i do not hear voices.

  • Hi!

Thanks for the follow-up and additional info. Would you be able to catch a video recording of this so I can take a closer look? No need to include voice/audio in your video if you're not comfortable with that. Simply a visual display with your HUD and chat showing that input is coming through from other players will do.

Please upload your video to a public hosting platform like YouTube or Imgur.

    Thanks in advance!

    crew chat - https://youtu.be/B2Svy9QRHQY

my apologies on the crew chat one, I've never edited a video before and couldnt get it narrowed down in the app i used, and tried to cut the rest of it out so its just the voip icons. hopefully thats what was needed

  • Hi again,

Thanks so much for the videos, I really appreciate you taking the time to record those.

I'm sure you've already exhausted most troubleshooting, but I'm just checking again to make sure we've covered all possible causes. If you haven't already, could you take a look at our Audio & Voice Troubleshooting guide and see if any of the recommended steps there might resolve your voice chat issue?

I'm thinking your Record settings inside your PC device settings might be the key:

    - For Windows 10/11: Hit Windows Key + R: type: mmsys.cpl and hit enter to bring up your sound devices.
    - Find your preferred device, make sure it's set to both "Default" and "Communications Device" for both the Playback & Recording tabs.
    - This works for all versions of Windows.

Another thing to try would be to search for Microphone Privacy Settings in the Windows search bar, go into Microphone under Privacy, and make sure that Marathon is listed under "Let apps access your microphone".

Hoping this will do the trick! In any case, I'll be right here if it still doesn't work.

Thank you again and keep me posted!

  • again as ive stated my microphone (hyperx quadcast desktop mic) works just fine. I use two seperate devices for listening and speaking. headset to hear and mic to talk. my group and proximity chats can hear me just fine. i just get no audio from anyone speaking. nothing. not even static. the issue isnt speaking. the issue is hearing. i can communicate if they stop and use the text chat to respond but i do not hear any voice. ive gone so far as to verify files for the game. still no audio from other players. for sake of reference i have no issues hearing on discord or the voip from other games. the only one i am having an issue with is marathon. i have tried it with discord on , and with discord off, while streaming and while not streaming. its as if the voip is on only to speak, but the listen part just never worked

  • Interesting thing I've noticed. I have 2 headphones (Bose quietcomfort, Edifier) and an earphone (Nothing CMF). When I connect either the Bose or the nothing to my PC, I cannot hear other players. If I switch the output for voice chat to my Monitor, I can hear folks. However, When I connect my edifier instead, all the game audio is not immersive (due to the headphone quality) but I can hear players.

  • Hello again,

Thanks for the follow-up and additional info. I've gathered everything you said about this issue, as well as your video recordings, and sent a report to the dev team so they can investigate this.

Our apologies for this persistent issue, and I really appreciate your patience while we work on it. If you find any other notable info to share about your audio and voice chat issues, feel free to ping me here so I can update our devs.

    Thank you!

  • Hi, I wanted to chime in as well, have been facing the same issue as described by spleeneater. Crew can hear me, proximity chat as well, but I cannot hear anyone.

I have tried all the documentation and checked my devices settings and they are correct. I have no issues on discord. My headset is a Sony WH-1000XM4

    Thanks!

  • Hello! update - i plugged in my old Razer Nari headset to see if maybe it would make a difference and it did! the Razer nari uses two channels one is Razer Nari - Chat and the other is Razer Nari - Game - theres a volume nob on the side that lets you increase or decrease either volume. the Chat one is default communications and the game is Default. i got in a lobby and voip worked immediately. Ive been playing a great deal with Crew fill on now that i can actually hear people. I havent re-tried my other headset yet (was going to today but patch downtime =( ) I want to try it now that i know about the default communication and regular default to see if it has an effect.

To the others experiencing this issue try setting your headset to both default first and then default communication. it seems that might do the trick.

  • Hi again!

Thanks for updating us, I'm glad to see you found a solution with your Razer Nari headset!

While this configuration is currently working for you, I just wanted to let you know that our dev team is currently still working on solutions to this voice input issue and other similar voice chat and audio hiccups.

I'd also like to add that we have found that players using Bluetooth/wireless headsets are most commonly affected by voice chat issues like the one you reported. Our devs are working hard on this, and until a solution is found, anyone affected might want to switch to a wired headset as a workaround for now.

    Thanks again for the update!

  • just to be clear - the nari is a wireless/bluetooth headset. its unique feature (for me at least) is that it has two seperate audio channels allowing you to designate which is for game audio and which is for voice audio. all of my other headsets are single channel and didnt work for voice chat. ill do more testing tomorrow as i mentioned but for now the Nari works. i plan to confirm if they will work as just default comms , or as both default comms / default. please pass on to the devs investigating this issue that it may be due to folks only having single channel audio.

    thanks!

  • Hi!

Thanks so much for the clarification and the update. Your working headset having two channels does sound like a key element in this issue, I really appreciate you raising that point! I've sent this info and the updates you provided to the devs to help with the investigation.

Feel free to update us here if you happen to find any other information (though don't feel pressured into spending more time on this if you don't want to, you've already done a lot and gave us valuable updates on the issue. It's very appreciated!)

  • Having this issue to while remote playing to pc from x box. They hear me but I can't hear them. Im using a wired headset and marathon is the only gave i have this issue with...

  • Of course. The thing is there's no way to switch it on the headset. Its the game switching it somehow

  • Howdy, I'm experiencing the same issue. I use Audio Technica Bluetooth buds for game audio and a Razer Siren mic to speak to players. Everyone can hear me in game, I just can't hear them and need to use Discord to actually chat to people.

Everyone is playing groups and I really want to join in, please fix!

  • Just to add to this. I don't have a link or recording but I believe I identified the trigger, which is when you are talking in the menu lobby chat as it transitions to match lobby if your mic is active, it cause this to happen. I've replicated this at least 5-6 times. What it looks like to me is the in game mic is on constantly for the person. I've also had matches where my 1 friend who was in menu lobby with me can't hear me but the random I'm playing with can hear both of us speaking to them but we can't hear each other.

If you need headset spec it's a Steel Series Artic 5, and i tried this with my other headset a Steel Series Artic 3. All software with both is fully up to date.

I'm also on PC, which is also up to date.

I agree with the above statement that discord chat has no impact on this, as when it happens I have to open discord then join.

  • Wanted to chime in and report that I am having the same issue with Airpods Max and the HyperX Quadcast. Audio quality becomes horrible. It would be good if the in-game microphone/headphones select actually disabled input from everything except what is selected.
