Stuck in a "Continue Waiting?" loop

System: Windows PC (Steam)

Was playing on Perimeter when I got knocked and eliminated by another team, but my teammates were still alive, which is when the game locked up and after a few moments said something about reconnecting to Bungie Servers. At that point I got stuck in a seemingly endless loop of asking "Continue Waiting?".

After ten or so minutes I saw online people recommended using Alt - F4 to close and relaunch the game, to no avail. From what I can read online seems like my only recourse is to give up the gear I was running, which sucks cause I brought in some of my best gear to try a key run for the first time.

    We’re not able to restore items or progress lost due to disconnects, lag, or other connection issues. In cases where a qualifying server‑side error happens, any refunds that can be offered are handled automatically by the game systems, not manually through support.

    In the event that an error occurs with Bungie’s server or network infrastructure, connection recovery may not be possible. We will attempt to ensure that any players affected by a server error will have their starting gear returned to them. 

    Note: Gear refund only applies to a subset of server error conditions, and will not cover gameplay losses due to Internet connectivity or client-side problems.  

    To reduce the chance of this happening again, I’d also recommend going through general network troubleshooting (wired connection if possible, router/modem restart, closing bandwidth‑heavy apps, etc.).
