Error W:8:80090305 when logging in with Kaspersky antivirus enabled
When I launch the game, it starts normally but fails during the account login step and shows error W:8:80090305. The servers are not available. This issue only occurs when Kaspersky Standard antivirus is enabled. If I pause the antivirus, the game logs in and works normally.
I would prefer not to disable my antivirus every time I want to play. I have already tried adding the game and Steam to the antivirus exclusions, disabling encrypted connection scanning, adjusting firewall rules, and other recommended settings in Kaspersky, but the problem still occurs. Needless to say, I had the same problem during the Server Slam. All other aspects of the game work fine for me.
Could you please advise if there is a known fix or recommended configuration to allow the game to work with Kaspersky enabled?

Hi there,
Thanks for reaching out.
Could you also try to whitelist BattlEye as well as Marathon and see if it works?
To whitelist Marathon and BattlEye, open Kaspersky, go to Settings (Big Cog) > Security Settings (or Additional) > Threats and exclusions > Manage Exclusions and then add both Marathon and BattlEye and save.
Thank you for your reply.
I tried whitelisting both Marathon and BattlEye exactly as you described in Kaspersky (Settings - Threats and Exclusions - Manage Exclusions). Unfortunately, this did not change anything and I am still getting the same error W:8:80090305 when trying to log in.
Please let me know if there is anything else I could try, or if I should just wait for a patch to fix this.
Same issues for me. While playing Server Slam and i didn't know it was Kaspersky. It worked sometimes with combinations like, restarting Steam or the PC before login. I also whitelisted / excluded the Marathon / Marathon Launcher / BattleEye Service .exe. It's not helping. Only thing that works for now is to turn off Kaspersky completely, but you can turn it on again immediately after Login and it's still working. It would be nice to figure out tho how to configure so we would not need to do this. My main question would be, is this specifically a Kaspersky issue ? Because everything else always worked fine for me. Or is it maybe something about Kaspersky which BattleEye interferes with and blocks the login. Are there Battleeye Logs which we could analyse / send in ?
So a here an overview:
Exit Kaspersky completely = Works. Marathon can login.
Kaspersky in Gamemode = Not working.
Kaspersky Pause Protection = Not working.
Folder Exclusion = Not working.
File Exclusions of Exe. = Not working.
Turn off AntiVirus Component in Kaspersky = Not working.
Turn off Firewall Component in Kaspersky = Not working.
Turn off AMSI Protection in Kaspersky = Not working.
Turn off Network Attack Blocker in Kaspersky = Not working.
Turn off Intrusion Prevention in Kaspersky = Not working.
Turn off Kaspersky Security Network = Not working.
Turn off System Watcher in Kaspersky = Not working.
Turn off Inject script into web traffic to interact with web pages = Not working.
Turn off Scanning of Encrypted Connections = Not working.
Same issue for me too. Also noticed that if i turn off kaspersky and launch the game too fast then i get the same issue. if i keep trying to reconnect then i still get the same issue. i have to alt-f4 then launch again.
Kind of feels as if soemthing is blocked prior to launching the game.
Just to provide an update for Bungie Support: I followed all the instructions above and added both Marathon and BattlEye to the Kaspersky exclusions, but the login error W:8:80090305 still occurs.
Are there any additional troubleshooting steps I could try, or is this something that might require a fix on the game’s side?
I am also experiencing this same issue, and additionally whenever I open the game I am only getting 2-3 fps throughout the publisher information into the menu where I receive the W:8:80090305 error code. This is not a hardware limitation either as I have a i7-14700k and a 4070 Super.
Same issue here, tried everything but not work.
I wanted to provide another update regarding this issue. I also tried flushing the DNS cache on my system, but unfortunately that did not help. The error W:8:80090305 still appears during login.
Bungie Support, please let me know if there are any updates on fixing this issue.
After installing update 1.0.0.4, the login issue (error W:8:80090305) with Kaspersky enabled still persists.
Previously I tried all the suggested troubleshooting steps, including adding Marathon and BattlEye to Kaspersky exclusions, but the problem remains. The game only works if the antivirus is completely disabled.
Just wanted to report that this issue is still present and we are hoping for a fix in a future update.
Same problem still appears after update 1.0.5. Will there be any fixes for that bug?
I am also being affected by the issue.
Bungie Support any news ?
After Marathon Update 1.0.5.1 Error code W:8:80090305 is still in the game, sadly.
Issue still present after update 1.0.5.2. Surely this cant be a big fix as no other game has this issue.
Issue is still present after update 1.0.5.3.
I fixed it by reinstalling both Kaspersky and Marathon.
Hi! I had the same issue. Asked developers how to fix it. Just go to settings - security, scroll down and swtich the monitoring activity off.
PuppyCat can you provide a screenshot of what option exactly you meant also your version of kaspersky?
as you can see i already turned off every single module without success.
still i tried again. not working
@overload Unfortunately I don't have english version of the interface and can't change it to English (there's no such option), but try to follow screens using maybe camera in gemini for translation
thank you so much for providing the screenshots. i was about to say, i tried that two times now and it's not working. BUT i just did it again and i have to agree that this IS WORKING. now i have to deal with the fact that i'm either stupid or did something different the last times.
maybe someone else can try it and confirm that this is working ?
