Can't start game

When launch game through steam, just appear black screen for 5 seconds and then the game crash. After the update always like this, just return back to Marathon and can't even get into the main menu once.

    Hi there,

    Thank you for reaching out.

I'm sorry to hear that you are having issues getting the game to launch correctly.

To start out, we'd recommend trying to verify the game file integrity through steam to see if it helps. If the issue persists, please ensure that all of your drivers, windows, and your BIOS are all fully up-to-date. Lastly, if those two steps don't help, please try uninstalling and reinstalling the game.

If you still run into the same issue despite all of this, can you provide us with a copy of your DxDiag? You can copy and paste it over on PasteBin and provide us with the link.

  • hI, i've tried all these methods and nothing works, so where to find the DxDiag file?

  • Hi there,

    To get your DxDiag:

    • Press (Windows Key + R) to bring up the Run dialog box, enter this command “dxdiag” without quotation marks.
    • Click on “Save all information”.
    • Copy the text and use PasteBin.com to paste the information.
    • Create a link and post it here.

  • Hi again,

    Thanks for the DxDiag.

Since the issue started after the update, please try these remaining checks:

    • Fully close Steam, restart the PC, then run Steam as administrator.

    • Repair or reinstall BattlEye from the Marathon installation folder:
    1. Fully close Steam.
    2. Go to your Marathon installation folder and look for the BattleEye subfolder.
    3. Run the BattleEye installer there (or the “Install/Repair BattleEye” option if available).
    4. Relaunch Steam as administrator (right‑click Steam > Run as administrator) and then try starting the game.
    • Temporarily close Razer Synapse, HapticService, GameViewer, OBS, Discord, NVIDIA Overlay, MSI Afterburner, and RivaTuner.
    • If Marathon is installed on C:, make sure there is at least 52 GB free, or move it to another SSD.

The DxDiag shows a crash involving HapticService.exe and repeated graphics-driver timeout errors, so disabling HapticService and other background/overlay software is the most important test.

If it does not resolve the issue, please let us know whether BattlEye appears first and whether the game closes, freezes, or restarts the PC.
