PC Performance Clips from Cryo
Hello!
Three weeks ago i made a post about PC performance on, then, all 3 maps. With videos and performance metrics.
Now - Cryo is out, and it is as i feared. It runs even worse than Outpost does. I've enabled RTSS stats for a couple of runs and recorded some areas. Cryo being Cryo, i didn't bother with "cinematic" 5min walks like i did previously. Nor did i bother checking what changes other settings would do, as we already know they won't do anything to improve the performance by anything but ~10fps, which is not gonna help us here.
My computer:
Ryzen 7 5800X3D
Geforce RTX4070 (regular, bland non TI)
32GB DDR4 RAM (3200MHz)
Game is installed on an NVME SSD.
I play at 3440x1440 resolution. Nvidia Reflex is On on all the clips, capping fps to 138 (144hz monitor). GPU driver version is 596.02.
Frametimes on Cryo are the worst in the game (just look at the graph, it's disgusting). Even when fps stables out at ~60-70 frame times are hopping all over the place, and this is with Reflex ON. If during a fight you have to have your camera pointed towards the center of the map - you are at a massive disadvantage. There are also other hotspots on the map that when looked at tank fps. I will have to try locking fps to 60 next time i'm on Cryo to help things out. But even then, center of the map can and does drop me to below 60... And this is not the solution in the long run.
Here are the clips (audio is muted as our "combat chatter" is not relevant to the subject matter):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSh6NK0Aatc - Doing random things shortly after spawn. (fps range 115-69)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzw-vU1WVaU - Cryo's center of the map. The worst offender. (fps range 93-57!!!)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFuc9wNxuGo - Combat in some hallways. (fps range 83-62)
From me, while i enjoy the game very much, i will not be returning for the coming seasons until the performance is fixed. The guys i was playing with in these clips have worse PCs than i do, and mine is already what i'd consider "lower mid range" by today's standards. They drop below 60 and center of the map has them at 40s. This is not what "optimized for the lower end" looks like.

Hi there,
Thank you for the report.
If you haven't yet, we recommend checking out our new PC Performance guide so that you can optimize your PC performance when playing Marathon.
