Bungie Answered

Where can I get help with CrossSave account linking from Bungie?

So just a built a new PC, super excited to try out Marathon on it after playing on my Xbox.  Somehow, my Xbox and Steam account are linked on Bungie.net, however on my PC it sees it a fresh account with no progress sync from my Xbox account.  I've spent 2 days with ChatGPT trying to resolve it since there is no Bungie Help contact.

Seriously, you want people to pay you money, yet you provide no direct support contact.

  • Hello there,

Thank you very much for reaching out to us. I'm sorry to hear that you are having issues with the Cross Save feature. To start, we'd recommend going through our Cross Save Guide for some additional information on the feature along with some troubleshooting steps to try when things go awry.

  • I have gone through all of the Cross Save Guides, and tried multiple times to get the accounts synced.  I've uninstalled Marathon and went through and made sure there was no leftover folder data.  Cleared Steam Caches etc.  I log into Xbox and it shows all of my progress, but on my PC I load up and its a fresh account.

  • Hello again,

Thank you very much for your response and the additional screenshots. To further investigate, can you provide us with a screenshot of your account name as it appears in-game?

  • Hello again,

Thank you very much for your response and for those screenshots. To further troubleshoot this issue, we need to check that the Steam account you're logging into Marathon with has the same Steam ID number as the one linked on your Bungie profile.

Please open the Steam app. In the top-right, click your name, and press "Account Details." Underneath your account name will be the Steam ID number.

If the Steam ID number listed doesn't end with the numbers 28356, then you're logged into the wrong Steam ID, and will need to log into the one you linked in your Bungie.net profile to access your characters in Marathon.

  • Thanks for these details.

I can't seem to find any other account that I may have had that includes that steam number.  Would it be possible to share the account name associated to that steam id?

If not is it possible to unlink that Steam account so that I can link the current steam account I have?

  • Ok, so an update;

I have successfully recovered the steam account that is linked to Bungie.net, this is a Steam account I tried years ago when trying out Destiny Crosssave.

My new Steam account is what was used to purchase Marathon and hence why I don't see any cross-save progress.

Is there any possibility to unlink the old Steam account and link it to my Steam account which has Marathon purchased on it.

  • Hello again,

Thank you very much for the response and the update. Glad you were able to locate where the issue was coming from. Unfortunately, due to a mandatory security policy, we are unable to unlink accounts once they've been bound. Furthermore, as of March 25th, 2025, it is no longer possible from your end either to unlink an account once bound to your Bungie.Net account.
