Patch 1.0.5 crashes for Intel Ultra CPU's

I just want to state that the recent patch in Marathon has been causing crashes. Before the patch I clocked roughly 100 hours in the game with a total of 10 crashes since server slam. Since yesterday I've crashed over 20+ times.

I have done all recommended steps to troubleshoot with no fix yet. I have updated all drives, reinstalled windows and the game itself, and turned of all other apps and overlays. No error message appear and nothing in eventviewer is pointing to hardware malfunctions. All my research ended on the same conclusion as many others, something is messing up the game if you are using an Intel Ultra core cpu.

I'm hoping for a hotfix to solve the issue, or just a confirmation that it is being investigated.

PS. Thanks for making a fun game for me and my friends :)

    Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. We're sorry to hear you're dealing with this frustrating situation.

We can confirm the team has received reports of crashes of this nature and is looking into the situation. We appreciate your patience.

  • Still no comms about it being a known issue, still no ETA about any fix.. Sucks to be you, and me, and apparently a lot of people that cant play the game due to this CPU issue.

  • i had this issue before, my fix was update bios and Management Engine to the latest version.

  • Updating the bios does not work for everyone. It has been more the 24 hours since the patch dropped and still zero word from the devs on the issue. But I am sure they made sure the ARG was working so all the streamers could get content.

  • same crashing issue here after most recent Marathon update, just tried updating the BIOS at the suggestion of a discord user but it didn't help.  Intel Core Ultra 9 285K 3700Mhz, RTX 5090, 64GB RAM

  • I updated my BIOS and was able to have a session which did not crash. Maybe try updating the Intel Management Engine as well? This is the thread I posted if you want to see my experience Crash to Desktop During Matchmaking After Update (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ – Marathon Help

  • Hello again everyone,

The fix I came up with yesterday was:
Updating your BIOS (dont do any tuning apart xmp/expo) and Intel Management Engine.
    After that I suggest also:
Go to the location where your game is installed, for me its C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Marathon\battleye
Right click on Uninstall_BattlEye -> Run as Administrator -> uninstall it
    Then
Right click on Install_BattlEye -> Run as Administrator -> install it

You can also just delete the insides of this folder and game/steam will redownload it back.

If that doesnt work then I am out of ideas and this probably needs official fix.

  • Just to add to my testing, I've crashed more on dire marsh and perimeter. Only crashed twice on Outpost for some reason (smaller map with other elements?). I'm used to crashes in other games on multiple pc specs as well in other unstable games like Cyberpunk (gpu heavy) and Starcitizen (cpu heavy). My friends who helped testing had ryzen cpu's which meant one crash only due to the map bug in earlier patch of Marathon.

  • The BIOS update seems like an unoptimal workaround since most people don't know how to do it safely and it appear to have mixed results.

  • I have an Ultra CPU and was experiencing this issue in every round. I have a Gigabyte Z890 motherboard and found that the issue was resolved after updating the BIOS to version F20.

I did not enjoy the update process, but it worked. Good luck to everyone else with the issue.

(Just to be clear, I had also reinstalled the game and reset windows 11/installed updates etc, removed gamebars, nVidia apps, battleye etc).
