PC Voice Chat - Mic through USB audio interface not recognized
Marathon Username: SimpsonsFan007#0479
Marathon will not recognize the microphone I use as my default communications device. I have a mic connected via XLR to an audio interface (Steinberg UR-RT2) and into my computer via USB. Windows recognizes the mic just fine, and I have it set as my default for both general and communications per the help article Audio & Voice Troubleshooting.
When in the main screen in a party with friends, talking into the mic doesn't make the circle around my badge in the bottom of the screen light up, at all. Friends can't hear me, but I can hear them just fine.
When in a match, same - I can hear them but they can't hear me at all.
To make sure it wasn't a problem with my computer, I plugged in an old USB mic directly to my computer, and my friends are able to hear me on that no problem. But I have the setup that I have and I don't want to have to do a workaround for only one game when everything else works as expected in other games and apps.
Since this setup works completely fine in other games and in other Windows applications that use a microphone, it's frustrating that a game so reliant on communication is not able to use the same hardware that everything else plays with just fine.
Also, when playing with the USB mic with a friend in my party, about every third infil that we do, one of us can't hear the other. And then it's fixed when we get back to the lobby after exfil (or death). So the overall voice chat still needs some work, it seems.
Happy to give additional information if needed - there's not really "reproducible steps" to offer here, it's just... my mic setup isn't recognized when it's fine everywhere else. Help?

I'm having the same issue with a Scarlett 2i2 connected via USB. I have a Shure SM7B connected to interface via XLR.
Audio is going fine to every other app. I also checked Windows Privacy & Security.
Ok, I was able to resolve the issue. I changed USB ports and I also forgot to set for communications, not sure which one solved the issue. A Reddit user said his issue was resolved by changing from USB 3.0 to 2.0 port.
Ok, I'll try the USB port thing and see if that is it. I have the USB interface mapped as my default audio and default comms in Windows, and have those options selected in Marathon for Voice Chat input and output.
Ok, I checked and my audio interface is in a USB 2.0 port already. I tried, on a whim, moving to 3.0 (didn't work), and then back to the 2.0 port - still no joy.
Also confirmed that "Device Communication Default" is selected for both input and output.
This is quite frustrating.
Ok, I figured out my issue.
I found a Reddit thread that references a Discord user named MegaLonk so credit to him for getting me there.
Mine was two-fold - I had to move the mic cable from input 2 to input 1 (apparently Marathon only looks at the first input in audio interfaces), and I also had to turn off the Hi-Z switch on the interface (used to boost the signal of a non-active instrument source like electric guitars, that I always have turned on because this is also a recording studio rig for me).
I had the mic cable plugged into input 2 since I have an instrument cable going to my guitar pedalboard "permanently" using the input 1 slot, so when I swapped things out there was still no update but then on a whim I tried hitting the Hi-Z switch to turn that off, and that seemed to address it.
Bungie Support at the very least I'd recommend updating the help article linked at the top of this thread so others in this similar situation can see that they might need to change inputs on their interface, and also turn off Hi-Z for that input as well.
And is it possible to address the bug of only looking at the first mic input? This is the only game that has done mic implementation this awkwardly, in my experience. So seems like a bug to me.
Thanks!
