Headphone mic on Xbox stops working frequently, only updates seem to fix it.

I have had consistent issues with Marathon and my Xbox wireless headset. The sound part of it works fine, but the mic does not. It works correctly for every other game I own, and sometimes after an Marathon update happens it will work again, but without fail it stops working at some point. I thought uninstalling and reinstalling would work, but it has not this time. Sometimes this occurs after games where I am kicked out due to weird errors.

I am on Xbox Series X with a slightly older version of this headset: https://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Headset-Headphones-Console/dp/B0DH689JGY

    Hello there,

    Thank you for your report.

We understand the mic of your Xbox wireless headset doesn't always function with Marathon. We're sorry to hear of this, as we can imagine the impact of such an issue. For our investigation, could you clarify if this happens to coincide with using Xbox Party Chat? Also, what are some of the weird errors you describe? If they were error codes, could you kindly let us know which? We'll then review.

  • I had an issue last week where I was kicked twice in a row, with error codes weasel and grapefruit at different times. The mic did indeed stop working after those errors, however this most recent bout of it did not coincide with any type of error.

I have not used Xbox party chat, and am not familiar with it in general. Only standard match making chat. The issue is also not intermittent when it occurs. When it stops, it won't come back on again until an update. I think it was solved one time by a reinstall, but looking back I believe that coincided with an update, so hard to pick apart the cause and effect there.

  • Scratch that, it started working again. The prior issue still stands from last week, but I think I just had the button off this time lmao.

  • Hello again,

    Thanks for the update.

Were glad to hear your mic has resumed working again. At this time, we have taken note of your report concerning the audio issue you've experienced, as well as your encounter with the error codes you name. Thanks again for reaching out with your report!

Weasel and Grapefruit both indicate general networking issues. If you start to experience them again, then you may wish to see if the steps outlined in our Network Troubleshooting Guide help in alleviating them.
