Game launch on ps5 error

Trying to play marathon with my brother on ps5. He just bought it and downloaded it. When he launches the game, he gets an error message saying there was a probleme reading the game content. We tried: - booting in safe mode and rebuilding database of the ps5. - restoring license. - uninstalling and reinstalling. But we are still getting the same error message (no error code). I haven't found a single person/forum thread online with that issue.

    Hi there,

    Thanks for reaching out.

Could you try the following in this order:

    1. Check your PS5 system language

      • If you recently changed your PS5 language (for example from French/German to English), try switching it back to what it was when things worked:

      • Go to Settings → System → Language → Console Language and change it back to the previous language (or to English (United States) if you’re not sure).

      • Restart the console and try launching Marathon again to see if it does a “verifying game content” pass and then starts.

    2. Clear system cache + rebuild database (Safe Mode)

      • Turn the PS5 off completely (not Rest Mode).

      • Hold the power button until you hear two beeps to start Safe Mode.

      • Plug in your controller with a USB cable and press the PS button.

      • Run:

        • Option 5: Rebuild Database (after)

        • Option 1: Clear System Software Cache

      • When it’s done, boot normally and try Marathon again.

    3. Check “Manage Game Content” for broken pieces

      • On the PS5 home screen, highlight Marathon.

      • Press Options → Manage Game Content.

      • Make sure the base game is fully installed.

      • If you see anything labeled “Unknown content”, 0 KB, or partially installed:

        • Delete just that content.

        • Redownload it from the same Manage Game Content screen.

      • Test Marathon again.

    4. Move the install between drives (if you have an external SSD/HDD)

      • Go to Settings → Storage → Console Storage → Games and Apps.

      • Select Marathon and choose Move to an external SSD/HDD.

      • After it finishes, move it back to Console Storage.

      • Try launching the game again.

    5. Clear local Marathon saved data (doesn’t delete account progress)

      • Go to Settings → Storage → Saved Data → PS5 Games → Marathon.

      • Delete the Marathon saved data there.

      • Your in‑game progress is tied to your Bungie account, so this only resets local settings/cache.

      • Launch Marathon again and see if it gets past the error.
