New Game Crash after new Updates

Hi Marathon Dev Team, I wanted to report an issue my friend is experiencing on PC. The earlier crashes related to the CPU have now been fully resolved, so that’s no longer a problem. However, a new issue has appeared — every time the game receives a new update/version, it starts crashing consistently. This only seems to happen on PC, and it occurs after each new patch is installed. We’re hoping you can look into what might be causing these update-related crashes and help find a solution. Please let me know if you need any additional details like system specs, crash logs, or reproduction steps. Thanks for your time and support!

    Hello there,

Thank you very much for reaching out to us. I'm sorry to hear that your friend is having issues with the game stability when trying to play the game.

To start out, we'd recommend trying to verify the game file integrity through steam to see if it helps. If the issue persists, please ensure that all of their drivers, windows, and their BIOS are all fully up-to-date. Lastly, if those two steps don't help, please try uninstalling and reinstalling the game. Please use this guide to reinstall Marathon.

If your friend continues to experience this crashing after the above suggestions, then please let us know if they are seeing any error codes when it occurs, and we'll review.

  • He doesn't get to see any codes its just a hard crash to desktop constantly after every game update I'm sorry I can't provide you with a error code or something

  • Hi there,

If your friend has already tried reinstalling the game and updating all of their drivers, BIOS and Windows updates, have them try the following:

    • Temporarily disabling overlays and capture tools (Discord, GeForce Experience, Xbox Game Bar, OBS, etc.)
    • Turning off any CPU/GPU overclocking
    • Running Steam and Marathon as administrator (right-click → Run as administrator)
    • If they use an external audio interface, temporarily disabling its extra/midi drivers to see if crashes still occur

Also, please verify that your friend's PC meets or exceeds the requirements needed to run Marathon. While it may be possible to play on certain laptop configurations, we do not officially support them per our Marathon Storage and System Requirements guide.
