VOICE CHAT NOT WORKING
Bungie Account Name - Ada-1 Lover#7743
Platform - Steam
Description of Issue - My voice chat was working at launch, but a week later, it suddenly stopped working. I can't talk or hear anyone; the same with prox chat. My audio and social settings are correct. My icon lights up when I talk, but no one hears me. I followed the audio troubleshooting steps, but it still didn't work. It's getting very frustrating to lose my runs because I can't communicate effectively with my team. AGAIN I HAVE WENT THROUGH "Audio and Voice Troubleshooting guide". I got an automatic reply telling me to "consider reaching out to the manufacturer for specialized troubleshooting" if the problem is my headset. My headset works in other games, so why won't it work here? I shouldn't get another headset to be able to play this game. Anyway, I tried a different headset, but it didn't work. I mainly play on pc but I tried playing on a laptop, and the voice chat worked.
Rough Date and Time of issue - from March 11 and onwards
Repro steps - i think it stopped working after an update from the game

Hey there,
Thank you for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear your voice chat has stopped working recently.
Is your headset wireless/Bluetooth? If so, please note we are currently aware of and working on voice chat issues impacting Bluetooth headsets. If you have access to wired headphones, this may be a workaround for the time being.
If your headset is wired, then this may be a different issue. I know you've already taken the time to go through our Audio & Voice Troubleshooting guide - I'm just double checking if you've also tried changing the Playback and Recording settings in Windows? Just want to clear out this option before we move forward.
Keep me posted, thanks!
Yes, my headset is wired, it's the HyperX Cloud 3 if that can help. Also, I tried changing the Playback and Recording settings in the Windows control panel if that's what you mean. other solutions I tried are plugging the headset into different pc usb ports, even using a Type-C port, and reinstalling my headset driver
Hi again,
Thanks for following up. I appreciate the added info on your headset model as well.
I'm assuming the rest of the game audio, besides voice chat, is working?
Another thing to try, if you haven't already, is to disable all other audio devices in the Windows Control Panel. In the same settings you mentioned, under the Playback tab, completely disable all devices that you aren't using for Marathon. Then do the same in the Recording tab.
Let me know if this works!
Yes, the rest of the game audio is working. I tried disabling all other audio devices, but it still doesn't work. I don't know if it helps, but Something I noticed in the game is in the lobby on the bottom right, where my icon is, I can see my microphone symbol, I can mute and unmute it, but it doesn't appear to my group, and I can't see my group's microphone symbol.
I see, thank you for the update. Would you be able to capture a quick video of this issue so I can have a closer look? No need to include audio if you're not comfortable recording your voice. Just showing the mic icon itself will do, where we can see it light up when it detects your voice input.
Please upload your video to a public hosting platform like YouTube or Imgur and share a link here.
Many thanks again!
Here is the link. Please tell me if I missed anything or if something wasn't clear,

Hi again!
The video is all good, thanks a lot for taking the time to record this! Before I forward this to the devs for further investigation, there's another thing you can try network-side that can resolve voice chat issues, as listed in our FAQ Page:
I don't really know how to say this, but 2 days ago, the Voice chat suddenly started working when I was in the middle of a run, and other players can hear me. I tried finding how it worked, but I have no idea how it happened yet. Maybe I needed to wait some time after changing the settings or something? I'll keep you posted if it ever stops working or I find the solution. Thank you so much for your help. I wish there were a way to repay it
Ever since it was working, I didn't restart or shut off my computer until today, when I had a power outage, and my pc was shut off. I booted it up and started a marathon, and the voice chat wasn't working again. I'm not sure what the problem is, but here is what I was doing before the power outage that might be related to this issue. In the sound control panel, I was enabling my monitor speaker when I used it and disabling it when I didn't use it, and when the pc was shut off, the speakers were enabled, so when I started the pc and open marathon and discover the voice chat isnt working I disabled the monitors speakers in the sound control panel and restarted my pc but still the voice chat isn't working. I don't really know what's the problem with my pc. I really appreciate your help, and I'll keep updating if it works again or if I find a solution
Hi again!
Thank you for the updates, and please forgive me for the delayed response.
That is indeed very odd that your voice chat started working on its own and then stopped again. Were you able to try changing your MTU settings as listed above?
Please let me know here how it goes!
Yes, I tried the MTU solution, but it didn't work. I'm not sure if I was doing it correctly, though. I'm gonna share the steps I took,
1- Open marathon and test the voice chat in the lobby with a friend
2- Voice chat is not working. Close the game
3- Change Mtu settings by adding 10. example.(1420 to 1430) then open Marathon
This is what I was doing until I reached 1500 in the MTU settings. Sorry if what I was doing was wrong. This is the first time I changed the MTU settings, so I'm not familiar with it.
Hi again,
Thanks for updating us, and don't worry about it! This is plenty of helpful information.
One last thing to check, would you be able to send me screenshots of your in-game audio device settings as well as your system device? You can upload it to Imgur and then send me a link here. I'll save that info and pass it over to the developers for further review.
Additionally, I believe you already tried this but just to double check - using a different device/headset did not resolve your issue here, correct?
Hopefully everything is in check: https://imgur.com/a/lk0q3nZ
I didn't have another headset to try, but I did try using the built-in microphone on the PS5 DualSense wireless controller. The controller's built-in microphone worked in Discord and the game "Rainbow Six" voice chat, but not in Marathon.
Hi again!
Thank you for the screenshots, I really appreciate it. Please forgive me for the delayed response.
Your settings seem fine according to your screenshots. I understand you were unable to reproduce this on a different headset. I've taken note of the information and updates you provided, and I've saved this conversation as well as your videos and screenshots for closer investigation. I passed this over to the developers so they can have a look at your case and see if there is an issue. While I am unable to provide an ETA for an update or resolution, I will let you know here should we need any further action from you to troubleshoot this.
If you have any new information or updates to share, feel free to let me know here and I will happily relay it to the dev team (though don't feel pressured to do so as you have already done a lot to help us investigate this!).
Thank you again for all the information and updates regarding this report!
