parasitism 3/5 stopped progress

Was working on he sekiguchi parasitism 3/5 contract on Dire Marsh. I looted a 3 sparkleaves before extracting the biotic sample, took one out of the stack to use for the sample.
Later on, after grabbing the sample, i needed to make inventory space, so I dropped the remaining 2 sparkleaves I had. Doing that reset the first part of the mission, effectively making the rest of the steps locked until I picked up more sparkleaf, despite the fact that I had the biotic sample already. When I picked the sparkleaf back up (the same 2 that I had dropped before), it marked the first step as complete again.
Ended up not being able to finish the quest that run because I had moved far away from where I had dropped the stack and didn't notice. Did not have time to go through it again before exfil.
