Absolutely horrific framedrops

So I don't know what's causing this issue I'm having but basically the game runs fine 99% of the time. Like it'll run like butter for hours and hours and hours.

But occasionally, and I genuinely can't figure out why, but the game will literally crater to 2 frames. I just assumed it was random but given that it just happened again about 5x in a row on my first run of cryoarchive, just as a lot of enemies spawned in, which might explain why it seems to happen as a team fight tends to start, which is obviously the worst possible time for it, which occasionally screws me massively but generally just forces me to only ever use free kits or solo queue.

I'm on a 3050ti mobile, which given that it runs perfectly fine on this even on default settings and considering I dropped to lowest settings just to make sure, even with some upscaling to get a tiny bit extra out of it all, it shouldn't be doing this. I dropped my settings to this as a result of one of these lagspikes, so it lags out completely, drops my frame down to nothing, and then i'm basically stunlocked for that entire time, while my game recovers, basically leaving me a sitting duck with nothing that I can possibly do.

I've got a 12700H, which is literally 20 cores, and 64 gb ram.

So this is very unlikely to be a hardware problem on my end. The only excuse maybe is that the gpu isn't up to it but since i've got everything turned to lowest this shouldn't be the case. So I just need help figuring out why this is happening, if there's any debug mode or telemetry i'm happy to turn it on and provide logging and data, and I'm installing afterburner.

It's genuinely destroying the experience of playing this.

It literally feels like i'm being hacked or something which obviously is just because it sucks so much when it happens, but the forum has constantly refreshed while typing this so this feels very much like it's something I don't know about bungie here. So I need input on getting a fix for this.

So I am happy to install afterburner and log everything and submit those logs to figure this out, it's genuinely wrecking the fun. so if anyone's got any idea on why this is happening or what's going on, etc. It's possible it's some throttling of something somewhere but given that it's suspciously in times of excess action in the game it feels like it's not something I did wrong here, obviously this is a windows 11 machine so there's probably something somewhere that's set up in the dumbest way possible but I wouldn't know where to start looking other than setting up a system logger and then hoping I catch something and track the issue down.

so if you've got any suggestions or there are any options that re known to cause please do let me know becuse the rchiv'es not going to be here all weekend and I don't want to lose my stuff to actual game breaking bugs that make it impossible for me to even navigate in first person let alone fight and defend myself, while lagging out at 1fps with distorting sound and literally a slideshow slow mo, jump cut to my gear on the ground followed by the reapet the second i'm revived.

It also seems to lag out in certain areas more than others so it's say with about 80% certainty that it's location specific.

Again I'm just saying it feels like i'm getting hacked because it's causing me to lose and i'd be fine enough if i lost fairly, even if I obviously don't like coming off second best but losing after I was basically put in a situation in a way that I couldn't possibly control where I am getting zero performance with no way to determine why or what really caused it or how to fix it or what to enable to find a way to solve it feels pretty damned bad.

So again I'm totally willing to install like 50 event loggers and just try to reproduce this to hunt the bug down but I'm not going to be able to do that solo so I need some actual input here on how this is happening or what's triggering it or if there's something on my system that's running in the background that's not playing nice etc etc. Like I'd almost go as far as formatting the entire machine or moving to linux to fix this. Obviously that would be the last resort but I just don't want to play with a random lenght rope tied around my neck that's connected to something deep in the bowels of microsoft for them to randomly screw me over on a sod's law basis.

I don't want to be too butthurt about it because it's a game but I can't really reliably play or take any risks worth taking in it if it's not going to be stable enough to give me a way to fairly fight my way out of choices that I make without hamstringing me in a way that makes my presence at my computer irrelevant to my success.

So I'd obviously like to contribute to solving this so that I can actually participate in this instead of always having to be mindful that the game is going to completely collapse in on itself if I push it in any way, especially in spots where pushing it is sorta required ot even be able to make it. So I do need help solving this or the game's basically not playable outide of grinding the quests but sheer brute force, luck and statistics, and it's not exactly okay to expect that to be how the game experience is, because then i might as well just get an AI to play it for me while I afk since I would just be mindlessly grinding and hoping for luck to carry me to completed quests, so it makes playing sorta completely irrelevant and skill not even a portion of the reason for success if this is what happens when there's actually something being risked.

So if it wasn't an extraciton shooter and i just randomly died and had to play the same mission again to see what it waslike it wouldn't be an issue, but when I had to grind for a week to get gear to use to run a mission that's there to have higher risk and the risk isn't based on a game mechanic but it's based on will the game actually function and not just conk out based on ???????????????? then ????????????? needs to be turned into >fixable-issue-with-debugging-steps< and fixed for everyone else too so no one has to feel cheated or screwed over. So yeah it's sorta completely game breaking in the worst possible way because it comes out of literally nowhere, there is no cue to it coming other than oh, my controls no longer respond and there's no visual or sound info coming along and then I just lose everything I made an effort to gain without having any fair shot at getting it unbroken.

game breaking bugs aren't something I should be fighting with IMO. I'll do the work and effort to fix the setup for the game so it runs well and i'll make an effort to solve the issues if there's a need for debugging info, but really as much as I like the game if i's gotthis happening then playing it is basically asking for trouble and I can't play 25% of the game currently because the area I need to run properly doesn't so I can't do cryoarchive at all because it's a toss up between it running fine and it being completely unplayable randomly through none of my own actions or inputs and given there's no debuging tool that's obviously apparent in gme or a safe mode or anything similar that I know of, which may exist but I can't find it, it's like, I legitimately can't actually play this because of this problem.

Ya know so like I need the tools to be able to find what I need to find to find what the problem is and what's causing it and it's not like there's any documentation on any of this, so surely there's some telemetry or logging or something somewhere that you'd used when testing this. I'm willing to sign NDAs etc whatever. I just want to play a working game that's not punishing me for things completely out of my control while i'm in game so please if anyone knows what to do here or how to go about fixing this i'm willing to spend the time it takes to make this work.

things that might be causing something:

I have dx diag open and it's currently saying i've got 33 gb in my pagefile, which is ridiculous because i have 64gb ram.... So maybe this has something to do with it. I don't know how you're handling memory or how windows 11 is allocating it either so this might be something to do with it. It seems super strange that I would have this much in paging when I don't even have anything open so this probably points to microsoft having some unbelievably stupid default settings on windows 11 somewhere.

Second culprit I assume is Nvidia. So if there's some incredibly stupid nvidia choice being pre made to sell more of their totallylegitframes.exe I think that might be it too. So I've had to set some specific settings to get star citizen working which might not be playing nice with marathon, so if there's an application profile for marathon on geforce experience which I currently don't have installed maybe it's worth trying but I don't want to mess with anything and waste hours and hours hunting this down if I can avoid it and if anyone else knows what specifically could be causing this I'd prefer to try suggestions before I zero day solo yolo start debugging this by elimination.

I would also like to poinnt out that the first time I was trying to post this, the entire thing kept refreshing and changing window and loading to other pages so if this has anything to do with it, because it's a behaviour i've never seen before, then obviously I'd like to know what is happening and how to solve it. I have never seen a webpage just randomly take initiative to do it's own thing before like I'd queued it to do something without knowing and then having it just randomly choose to be on another page without input.

    Hi there,

Please see our Marathon Storage and System Requirements guide to double-check that your system meets the current minimum specs. If it does, please double-check that Windows is fully updated to the latest version and try installing the game on another disk (if possible) to rule out potential hardware issues.

Please also note that the game is not officially supported on laptop devices, even if those devices otherwise meet the minimum requirements.

  • So yeah if you need dxdiag info, or for me to upload you any data just let me know, happy to share just want to actually be able to play without getting randomly punished for no in game reason.

  • That is the most pathetically half arsed response possible. I am sorry I bothered.

  • Can I report you to yourself for being incompetent?
