Impassible RUTABAGA Error on Startup

Launching the game for the first time results in an impassible RUTABAGA error code. This happens before you can access the in-game settings menu, making changing the display settings and optimizing the game's performance impossible.

Other users noted this issue during the beta, and it still hasn't been fixed. This is often coupled with the system not using discrete graphics during the startup, so that GPU usage sits at 0-10%.

Weirdly enough, other users have reported varying solutions. However, none of the previous ones - such as selecting high-performance in your Windows graphics settings for the Marathon.exe program or NVIDIA control panel, updating graphics drivers, or disabling the NVIDIA overlay - have worked.

System specs:

 Operating System: Windows 11 Home 64-bit (10.0, Build 26200) (26100.ge_release.240331-1435)
 Processor: 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-13700HX (24 CPUs), ~2.1GHz
 Memory: 32768MB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU
 DirectX: Version 12

    Hi there,

    Thanks for reaching out.

Error code: Rutabaga occurs when Marathon performance drops below sustainable thresholds.

Can you please try the following troubleshooting steps:

    • Please ensure that no other applications are running in the background, and relaunch Marathon
    • Verify that both your PC operating system and GPU firmware are up to date

Additionally, as per our system requirements page:

Important Note:  While we will do our best to make sure Marathon is available on the widest variety of PC hardware, we do not officially support Marathon on laptop configurations. Laptops with specifications that match or exceed our Minimum System Requirements may be able to play Marathon.
