Consistent Kernel Level BSOD from CLOSING the game
As the title says, I have consistently been getting a BSOD with the error code: PAGE_FAULT_IN NONPAGED_AREA, where most of the time it mentions that BEDaisy.sys has failed (which I am aware is related to Battle Eye specifically). If I look at the event viewer on my PC it will constantly log a Kernel Power event ID 41.
While it has happened trying to launch the game, I am consistently getting this issue when I EXIT the game. It doesn’t matter if I exit from wishing the game, end task via task manager, or even if I ALT+F4… the PC will typically crash. I have gotten lucky a few times but I would say 80% of the time it will occur, making the game nearly unplayable. I have tried so much and I am at my wits end, including:
- Verifying the integrity of the game files
- Reinstalling the game
- Reinstalling Battle Eye
- Updating my GPU Drivers
- Rolling Back my GPU Drivers
- Unplugging all USB devices aside from my Mouse and Keyboard.
- Updating my BIOS
- Resetting my BIOS to default settings
- Ensuring there is no form of overlocking being done.
- Performed a Memory Diagnostics Test (Clean)
- Attempted to launch and close Marathon without getting a BSOD with only one stick of RAM installed (tried with both sticks and both still had crashes)
- Reinstalled Windows (Keeping Personal Files)
- Reinstalled Windows (Clean installation, removed everything)
- Downgraded from Windows 11 back to Windows 10
The issue is still present, even on my PC that has nothing but Marathon, Steam, and the hardware I have. At this point I am only testing Marathon, but I have been having issues with most games that use Battle Eye AND other Kernel level Anti-cheats, such as EA’s Javelin, etc. But I have not had such consistent crashes until Marathon.
At this point, as much as I truly believe it’s to do with poorly tested and forced out Kernel Level anti-cheats, I am also inclined to believe it may be hardware issues. However, I don’t exactly have hundreds upon hundreds of dollars to start buying components just to test if they fix my issue. May attempt to replace my PSU, if that doesn’t work I will look at potentially my motherboard and potentially even the CPU. If I still do not have a fix at that point, I genuinely don’t know what to do. I’d attempt to buy some RAM if it didn’t cost an arm and a leg currently. At this rate I won’t even own the same PC so if it still didn’t work I don’t know what to do.
Has ANYONE had this issue or know someone who has had this issue and has been able to fix it via a method I did not list above?
My PC Specifications:
- Intel Core i9-14900K
- ASUS TUF Gaming Z790-Plus
- ZOTAC Geforce RTX 3090
- CORSAIR VENGEANCE DDR5 64GB 5200MHz
- Corsair RM1000x PSU
- Samsung 990 PRO M.2 2280 SSD (Boot drive and drive Marathon/Steam are installed on)
- Multiple other SSD drives and a single 8TB HDD
If there are any other specs or details you need please let me know.

Since there was no help given from Bungie or suggestions from anyone possibly experiencing this issue, I will give you folks an update on what ended up "fixing" this issue for me.
I ended up switching to a new motherboard/CPU and the problem has gone. Through my research on trying to fix the issues, the i9-14900k can very quickly become an unstable processor and will have clocks jump, a lot of times drawing way too much power or just enough to psyche windows out and cause a kernel level crash. Now, that's not to say it could have been my motherboard as well, but quite frankly I do not have the money or time to test the old CPU currently to see which of the two components was truly the problem.
All I know now is my game and many other small issues I had are working just fine now.
So if you are having a similar issues (especially if it extends to other games in similar ways, like random crashes to desktop or just ANY other BSODs) consider biting the bullet and buying a new CPU. After 13 years of going Intel I ended up switching to the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D due to the sheer amount of issues I started to see from others with the i9-14900k. Intel even offered an extra 3 years extended warranty on the CPU due to its issues... so that's pretty telling of their confidence in the product.
