A constructive perspective on Marathon's future from an experienced tester and player
I am writing this post not just as a dedicated player with 40+ hours in Marathon, but as someone with a background in game testing and mechanical design (having previously provided closed feedback and testing for titles like Helldivers 2, Arc Raiders, XDefiant, and the Battlefield series). I’m here because I deeply care about Bungie’s creative identity and the incredible DNA your studio possesses.
Your trailers and cinematics generated crazy numbers for a reason—the universe of Marathon completely captured us. The visual direction and the potential of the lore are outstanding. However, the market and the community have made it clear that a pure PvP extraction shooter is not what players want from Bungie. We want PvP to be a complementary addition when we feel like it, exactly like the Crucible in Destiny.
Marathon has a rich universe where you, as creators, can let your creativity run free. You have the structural blueprint to build something even better and more expansive than Destiny.
Destiny was never perfect, but it achieved something magical—it was a world that brought people together. The story campaigns, the co-op raids, and the simple shared experience of standing together in a social hub like the Tower are what gave that game its true soul. Marathon needs that exact same foundation to survive and thrive.
The community is still waiting, eager to return. We want to experience this universe cooperatively, explore its mysteries, and engage in deep customization for our Shells, rather than fighting through an exhausting extraction loop. I firmly believe that your development team needs this creative freedom as much as we need the game to evolve in this direction.
