Bungie Answered
Can we get some server support down here in AU?
My Aussie friends and I find about 90% of games encounter latency issues - rubber banding, shoot first die first, dying around corners etc. If we're bonked by a vandal or even a bot, we teleport from dodging it gracefully to being slammed into a wall. It seems we have a very brief window of about half the games experiencing this between 5pm and 9pm, outside this window is just constant red latency icon and versing overseas runners.

Hello there,
Thank you for reaching out.
There is already a Sydney datacenter in Marathon’s planned global setup, and Bungie’s international testing specifically included AP Southeast (Australia/New Zealand) against Sydney. The bigger problem from that testing was that Asia/Oceania players were still often being placed into matches 150–200ms away, including cases where Oceania population was low enough that few games started on Sydney and players got matched into US servers instead.
So the rubber-banding, dying around corners, and constant red latency icon outside a small evening window all sound consistent with an already recognized issue: when regional population is thinner, the current matchmaking tradeoff can push AU/OCE players into overseas lobbies instead of protecting latency hard enough.
Thank you for your feedback.
