Marathon doesn't change your 'Online' status to 'Playing Marathon'
I play Marathon on Steam. My friends and family play on xbox, but Marathon doesn't connect with or notify Xbox or the PC xbox app that I'm playing Marathon. It always just says I'm 'Online' on the Xbox app and on their xbox console friends list. Checking the xbox app/xbox friends list is how my social group knows others are gaming and how we know to invite each other to games. I've missed so many gaming sessions with my brother because he didn't think I was gaming or playing marathon because he often checks Xbox just to see who's gaming, sees I'm online, and thinks I'm not gaming so he doesn't come online. It becomes a hassle because we always have to phone call/text each other just to see if we're playing Marathon, instead of the convenience of seeing one of us is playing Marathon and just inviting each other to a game/voice call

We understand that your status doesn't change from Online to Playing Marathon for your friends and family who play on Xbox. We're sorry to hear of this, as we can imagine the impact which this may have had. Marathon just had an update go live today. Maintenance should have just concluded or be concluding shortly. Once it has, please download the update, and let us know if you still experience this.
If you do still experience this, then please clarify if you have any friends on Steam who are able to see your status, and if it changes to Playing Marathon for them. We'll then review. Thanks.
Yes, after today's update, server maintenance, and restarting my computer, it's still doing it
