Rubberbanding and constant lag.

Like the title says. Sometimes I will move backwards 2-5 seconds in time. I'll end up rounding a corner multiple times. Or I'll just stand in place watching my team mate move around looting containers, playing the game as if nothing is happening. And they just see me standing there stuck in position. I haven't ever encountered lag like this before. Usually it also affects where you see other players. They tend to teleport around too. But not in Marathon.

https://help.marathonthegame.com/hc/en-us/articles/39001736915348-Network-Setup-Wi-Fi-v-Wired-Connections

This page basically states if you have Wifi you could encounter internet connection issues. But it also says the game only needs about 1 Mbps speeds to operate.

So here's the deal. Most internet speeds exceed that by a fair amount now. I'm getting 12Mpbs download and 7Mbps upload. I far exceed their speed requirements. My assumption from reading through that page. Is that if I had the same speed on a wired connection. I would experience none of the issues above.

The issue I have with this is that I CANNOT just switch to a wired connection. And according to their own help page. My upload and download speed far exceed their requirements. I cannot see any latency requirements. I cannot compare this games lag to other games lag because it is special lag. So I cannot trouble shoot how I normally would. I literally have no analogue to compare this too. It's just BIZARRE.

My final frustration is that I cannot help but feel that blaming wifi in a day and age when almost everywhere is actually using wifi is aabsurd. You need to make your game work with all types of connections if they meet the requirements as stated on your own help page.

Every single speed test website I go to says I have a fine connection for video games. And then you say this. Just to make sure that you don't have to bear any responsibility.

Marathon creates connections between a player's system, Bungie’s servers, and other players in a unique way. As such, network performance in other games and applications is often NOT a good indicator that the network is set up for a stable connection to Marathon.

That means your lag is your unique lag. Not mine. You need to put a disclaimer saying that some wifi connections literally make the game unplayable. And you need to state that emphatically. If I could I would return this game. And it really frustrates me that I'm saying that because this is basically the first extraction shooter I have enjoyed.

But as it stands. I literally cannot play this game. I've died already due to the lag. And my internet connection works perfectly fine with HUNDREDS. I WANT TO REPEAT. HUNDREDS OF OTHER TITLES.

This purely a you problem Bungie. I genuinely want a refund after all of this. Take your unique lag and go home.

    Hello there,
    Thank you for reaching out.

What you’re describing goes beyond normal lag and sounds like severe rubberbanding and desync: getting pulled backward several seconds, rounding the same corner multiple times, and appearing stuck to your teammate while they continue playing normally.

I also understand the frustration with the current guidance around Wi-Fi. If your connection is already well above the published bandwidth requirement, it’s reasonable to expect that requirement alone should not imply this level of instability. Bandwidth is only one part of connection quality, and from a player perspective it’s hard to troubleshoot when the in-game behavior doesn’t resemble the kinds of lag seen elsewhere.

The feedback here is valid: if Wi-Fi is common for a large portion of players, then the experience needs to be reliable across more real-world connection types, not just ideal wired setups. At minimum, clearer guidance around latency, packet loss, and other factors would make the support page more actionable than a simple bandwidth target.

We appreciate you calling this out in detail.

That said, the best place to share it is on the official Marathon Discord rather than our Help Forums. To that point, we suggest posting your thoughts there, if you haven't already done so. You can find the specific feedback channels below:
