Unable to enable crew fill in duo / UI not showing solo/duo/trio status properly?

On PC through Steam. 

Loaded into dire marsh night, has previously been on a solo run, start game button not completing to green, checked R and showing solo, but duo option allowed so swapped to that. can now see that solo is not allowed even though the UI had me as that option. (I think I guess that is better than switching my queue without asking as before that lead to me accidentally going into wrong queues solo, so that is nice). 

so now I am showing in Duo queue but still showing error because crew fill is off and I don't have a buddy in my group, ok. 

But clicking on crew fill to toggle it to on just gives me an error noise and does nothing. 

Come here to make this report and took some screen shots, but accidentally overode them while tabbing back and forth.

Tested esc out of diremarsh queue and then back in.

Interestingly now I see a different error, my UI shows Duo but the mouseover error on crewfill says it thinks I am in solo so won't let me click it on. (see below)

While also not allowing me to queue as I don't have enough runners:

Something is up with the queuing UI either not allowing crew fill on, or misrepresenting what queue I am in. my have something to do with the map mode changing to duos only but I can't test that. 

I can test esc back out and going to dire marsh std/day

when I do that I see I am in solo queue (might be taking from my last game, or I was always stuck there regardless of what above was showing?)
clicking grey disabled crew full button does nothing but give an error boop as expected.

clicking onto Trios seems to work (duos not enabled currently) but there is somethign interesting going on when I click crew fill, clicking once seems to tick/enable fine making success noise. But strangely clicking again makes error noise but does not toggle state. clicking multiple times changes state every 2/3 clicks (the error sound two times in a row and the success sound two times in a row, while the visual button state changes every 3rd click)
