Bought the Deluxe Edition during the trial and can't receive a refund from PSN

Hi there,

As of yesterday, the Marathon Deluxe Edition tile on PSN ($14) still indicated that it included the base game.  I purchased it, then searched the internet to verify and came across a bunch of posts like this one.

I tried requesting a refund from PlayStation but they wouldn't allow it.  I eventually had to purchase the base game separately as the reddit post above indicates that the Deluxe Edition, when purchased during the trial, would only act as an upgrade.

This seems fraudulent for people like me who bought the Deluxe Edition without knowing about all the issues that transpired during the trial?  Bungie added messaging to the store page description, which you have to dig around for, but the SKU tile just says that it includes the base game (which it does not).

Can anyone help?  I tried contacting PlayStation but they would not honor a refund.

    Hello there,

    Thanks for reaching out.

There was a announcement on June 5th regarding purchases of the Deluxe Edition at a mitigated price. The PlayStation store messaging was updated at that time.

You can view the entire post here.

You will need to contact PlayStation Support for assistance with your purchase.

  • Hi there,

I appreciate the reply.  The PS store page does have that messaging but it's buried in the description.  The SKU tile (which is what you see when deciding between SKUs) still indicates that the Deluxe Edition includes the base game.

I reached out to PlayStation Support and they were not able to help.  They said I couldn't be given a refund because I had already downloaded and played the game, which isn't accurate.  I purchased the Deluxe Edition, learned about the issue, and requested a refund, but because I had the trial installed, they said my purchase was ineligible for a refund.

It just feels a bit sketchy to have the SKU tile say something that's not accurate, and not be allowed to request a refund because of another inaccuracy?

    Please help!

  • I'm experiencing the same issue. I even told them about the tweet and they said I had to contact you all. Help would be greatly appreciated.

  • I have also experienced the same issue.

Whilst PSN may have buried some small explanation in the Marathon Deluxe Edition description, they completely dropped the ball by still including the full Marathon game in the product listing of the Deluxe Edition.

I’ve used PSN for years, and bought over 200 games via their digital offering.

This is by far the most poorly communicated offering I’ve seen so far by PSN, and by proxy, Bungie as well.

I now have the deluxe edition and when I go to play I’m greeted by the fact that I don’t have the base game.

I was on the fence about Marathon prior to this, but this has left a poor taste in my mouth - bungie isn’t the provider of the PSN service, but I believe bungie has a responsibility to hold its resellers accountable for how they market their Bungie products.

If this isn’t sorted in some sort of amicable way, I’m boycotting the upcoming Halo release as well
