railguns should get explosive shells [well at least by default] they just feel extremely lackluster and pointless to use compared to snipers.

 

- railguns are more credit and ammo costly to grab from the armory and use in loadouts than snipers
- can only one shot if you land a headshot on a free kit or no shield/armor mods 
- the "massive" projectile on the ares rg from what I've seen has the same hitbox size as ordinary kinetic weapon shots 
- and the slow charge up time combined with the yellow flash makes it very easy to counter
- and the ares rg emits a loud charge-up noise when in corridors or enclosed areas making it very easy to dodge and avoid

now these downsides would be completely justified if railguns like the ares rg fired explosive shells, well at least by default/base: 

+ the explosive shots that have a decent sized blast radius would make the weapon ideal for dealing  UESC droids and other potential PVE based enemies in the future
+ the weapons would be a more powerful sidegrade for sniper rifles, as sniper rifles give you on demand pinpoint damage at a low cost while railguns offer a more powerful explosive alternative but are slower to fire and operate 
+ this would make railguns ideal for countering thiefs or assassins who usually hide in vents or on high cover as the blast damage would force them to change position rather than camp it out.
