Bungie Answered
PSN Deluxe Edition missing base game still
Purchased the deluxe edition on the 3rd after trying out the free play week and absolutely loving the game. I’ve done my best to be as patient as can be, but now it’s going on a few weeks and I’m still missing the base game. PlayStation support just keeps telling me to wait, but we’re almost at a month since the purchase. I just want to play the game. I’ve been seeing those that purchased on the 2nd got the game immediately, but the rest of us are just in the dark.

Hello there,
Thank you for reaching out.
I just wanted to let you know that I've created a support ticket for your issue, so one of our team members can assist you directly. Please keep an eye on your emails for the ticket link.
I bought it on the 9th and am just out of luck I guess. Please post if you get the game granted.
I just finally received a message from Bungie Support, and they are claiming I missed the window. I purchased on June 3rd, and the updated messaging wasn't present when I made the purchase.
As far as I know the updated description was added on June 4th, but they haven't stated the exact cutoff time anywhere.
The crazy thing is, if they wouldn't have released that statement about honoring the purchase, I would have just bought the standard version when it was on sale for $27. At this point, I'm not going to be buying the game at full retail price, especially because I would have never bought the Deluxe edition to begin with. I only did because it appeared to be the better deal.
It was added on the 5th. They sent me the post that was on X because I was complaining about the same thing. I purchased the 9th so whatever but I would have also just bought the base game. Hopefully they do right by you.
Well they made a post on X on the 5th, and I had seen that the actual PlayStation Store listing was updated either late on the 4th, or sometime on the 5th. No one seems to know for sure. But it makes no sense that they would update the store listing on the 2nd and then wait until the 5th to make the announcement.
But yeah, their wording makes it sound like if you purchased before their announcement on the 5th, you are eligible to receive it.
I know for a fact the description wasn't updated when I added the game to my cart. But I checked out a couple hours later and didn't go back and read the description again. I thought I was well before the cutoff time though having purchased on 6/3.
They haven't let anyone know what that cutoff time is though.
And even for people like you who purchased after, it was still extremely misleading. Many people don't read the actual gameplay description before purchasing.
This whole thing has been a disaster, and really has just ruined my experience with Marathon. Which is a shame, because I was really starting to enjoy it. In hindsight, I wish I had just bought the standard version for $27, and I would have been able to avoid all of this.
Yeah, I really do want to play the game. Its unfortunate, the way this all unfolded with the deluxe edition. I dont blame Bungie, stuff happens I get that.
Had I known before purchase though I would have just bought the base game and been playing this whole time. They should have made it more clear, as clear as possible. It just wasnt.
For sure. Mistakes happen, but their follow up and communication has been lacking. They had the opportunity to really turn the mistake into a positive thing, but just kinda went silent on everyone instead.
I also just want to play the game, and I really wish I had bought the standard version back when it was on sale earlier this month instead of the $14 deluxe edition. Or even after I bought the deluxe edition for $14, I was prepared to buy the base game still after seeing the store description updated, but I didn't because I saw their post on the 5th saying anyone who purchased prior would be given the base game at no additional cost. If that announcement was a little more clear and included the cutoff time, I could have seen that I wasn't going to receive the base game and just purchased it. Although, I do believe I purchased prior to the description being updated.
I could have been playing this entire time and avoided all this. But at this point, just on the principle alone, I don't feel like I can buy the game at full price. If I don't though, then it's like I just wasted $14. I'd be happy if I could buy the game at the $27 sale price.
I'm going to contact Playstation support one last time, and if they can't help, I may just try to get a refund for the $14, and then either buy the standard version, or move on to a different game.
Ill comtact them as well, here's to hoping.
ust an FYI to everyone that sees this, if you purchesed during the trial week and still havent received the game, you wont be getting it. Both playstation support and bungie support flat out said that anyone and everyone who has been affected has been properly compensated. Its a blatant lie, but I pushed back for almost 2 full weeks to poth playstation support and bungie support and both said to go to the other until finally bungie said I wasnt eligible to receive a game code becuase my purchase was HOURS after that tweet from one of the developers. Ive talked to other people in the same boat, I know a single person that got a copy of the game and they purchased it on the 2nd. Seams like anyone that purchesed on the 3rd or after are SOL. Bungie is currently experiencing massive layoffs aswell as a number of other issues so this is probably the end of the situation. They successfully swept it under the rug. I say good to the layoffs. Ill be happy to see the studio close after how they've destroyed any good will with their comunity and fired almost all their real talent years ago. Fuck bungie. Sorry to anyone like myself who's money is just lost in the void now. PLEASE protest with your wallet and boycott this shitty company so they go under sooner rather than later and cant fuck over more people. Bungie has been dead for years, dont feel bad or grasp onto nostalgia. Get angry. The state of the industry is a joke and we all just go along with it. If your seeing this, spent money on the game and dont have access. Make your voice heard, plaster your experience everywhere and make sure to let others know. This is wrong, and theres no longer anything we can do about this situation but warn others.
I just wish my $14 could go toward the base game. I don’t care about the skins. I thought I was buying the game and now it’s not on sale. Disappointing that they posted on the 5th but my purchase on the 3rd somehow isn’t eligible.
100% agree. I wish my money could go towards the base game to. With tge response Bungie gave me on my post I dont see a world where your purchase isn't validated. Bungie has responded to so many posts on this feed. Where is the response?
I also would be cool with the $14 towards the base game which is basically the same as when it was on sale. I couldn't care less about the deluxe skins. I don't want to just waste the $14, but I also don't want to buy the game at full price. Because I was about to purchase the base game for $27, and the only reason I didn't was because of their announcement.
They are basically claiming that the description was updated on the 2nd, or possibly on the 3rd prior to my purchase. But everywhere else I have seen claims it was updated sometime on the 4th. Regardless, they didn't make a statement until the 5th, so I feel like they should at least offer something to the buyers who were misled.
It would be great if they would respond, and offer some clarification, but it's nearly impossible to get an answer that isn't just some generic automated message.
I'm just disappointed in this whole experience, and wish I just bought the $27 standard version to begin with.
The poor customer service and lack of communication could have something to do with the fact that about half of Bungies workforce was just laid off. Marathon isn't performing exceptionally well, and so I'm sure they have their hands full. Although, that seems all the more reason to take care of the buyers interested in the game who were misled by a pricing error.
Deluxe upgrade wasnt even released until 6/16. Looking qt it now on psn. Frankly its not what any of us thought we were purchasing. If it was bought on the 2nd or the 15th it wasnt made clear enough. The more I think about it its a Sony issue not Bungie. Thats a failure of the PSN.
I agree 100%. We all bought this on the Playstation store, and they are just as responsible if not more IMO. We bought a product that we never received, and then a couple weeks after the fact, they changed what we purchased to a completely different product. Our receipts all say Marathon Deluxe Edition, but they have only issued us the Deluxe Upgrade.
It was their mistake, and completely misleading. No one would want to purchase just the Deluxe Upgrade if they didn't already own the game.
I have pointed out to PS support that my receipt says Marathon Deluxe Edition, but that I never received it, but they just refer me back to Bungie, and claimed that I am eligible to receive the base game at no additional cost and would be receiving it soon. Only for Bungie to come along today and say that isn't correct and that I won't be receiving it.
I was planning to contact PS support again, but idk, doesn't seem like there is much else I can do. If you do a chargeback on the credit card they will suspend your account.
As frustrating as its been. I still want Bungie to have success. We all know whats going on at that studio and I truly sympathize. It sounds to me like we are just kinda screwed on this. Im sure they are telling themselves its just $55. But thats not pocket change to the average american. Im always looking for the cheapest gaming option while still being fun. The dang console is over $400.. but whatever. Maybe im just poor. Lol
Yeah for sure, and me too. Mistakes happen, but it's just a frustrating situation. I'm kicking myself for just not buying the standard version. I'm not wealthy, but I can afford a $40 video game. I just rarely ever buy games at full price. And in this situation especially, where I could have gotten it on sale a few weeks ago, but didn't because of a pricing error, I just don't want to pay full price after all of that.
The game is currently on sale on Steam for $27, but probably won't go on sale on Playstation again until next season I would imagine.
I do want to keep playing though, so just a shitty situation all around. I may end up caving and just buying the game, but I also feel like I'm going to be at a disadvantage after being locked out for a few weeks.
