Friend requests issue
Friend requests issue persists. I am unable to accept requests and my sent requests are unable to be accepted. I have met quite a few people enjoying this epic game and want to play with teammates especially when putting all my precious loot on the line! It’s a shame when, we want to see the game succeed and grow player base and retention to then have this pillar of the social environment not working??? Is there an eta on a fix?

Hi there,
Thanks for the report.
Can you try logging into your Bungie.Net on a computer or on a mobile device and navigate to your friends list in the profile settings to see if the issue persists when accepting from the site instead of in-game? Can you also let us know how many friends you have on your list?
We encourage you to have a look at the "Bungie Friends" section of this Cross Play Guide for some additional information and a link to the profile settings mentioned earlier.
When I attempt to accept via bungie.net requests turn red and pop up window says: friend request failed…
Currently I have 9 friend requests pending
The issue has been present since latest 2 updates and since then when meeting new likeminded people I have been unable to add connections. If we want to build the community/network it’s problematic that I can’t add or be added to new contacts who then in turn would introduce me to more players… the frustration lies in the fact that this in my opinion is one of the greatest games ever despite its “hardcoredness” and shortcomings in onboarding and retention (fixable) the one thing we don’t is for people to not be able to connect
Hi again,
Would you be able to grab a screenshot of the error message that you get when you try to accept a request?
Also, how many friends do you have on your list aside from the 9 pending requests? By any chance is it 200 or near 200 friends? There is a limit of 200 Bungie friends, and we'd like to confirm if that could be what is causing the issue.
I have 194 bungie friends
9 incoming friend requests
14 outgoing
I will do some “housekeeping” and get back to you with my findings
I can confirm that after removing Bungie friends . I am now able to accept and be accepted by others…. Maybe a notification of me having reached my Bungie friends limit when it occurs ala “postmaster is full’ would be an idea
I have a similar problem, and have less than 100 Bungie friends. Even so, I reduced the number of friends by 15 and it still isn't accepting the friend request. I have used the website, the Destiny app (the request shows up in both Marathon and Destiny 2, although it was sent in Marathon), Marathon, and Destiny 2. It does not add or clear the request. On the Destiny app, it says my friends list is full, which at 80 friends is not accurate.
Hi there Viper41,
To help us investigate, could you please send the following if possible:
The other player’s Bungie name
Are you sending the request or accepting it?
Your Platform
Your approximate Bungie friend count
Do you get any error messages? or does it just not work correctly?
If you’re able to, please also include a video or screenshot that clearly shows any error messages and what happens after you try to accept the friend request. If the request stays pending afterward, please try to capture that in the image or video as well. You can use your platform's capture button to take a video and upload the footage to a public video hosting site, like YouTube, then post the link here and we’ll be glad to take a look.
1. Sabo#9622
2. Accepting
3. Xbox (and occasionally Destiny 2 app)
4. 80
5. No error messages on console in either Marathon or Destiny 2. "The request has failed. Your friend list is full." on the Destiny 2 app.
Hi again,
Do you have any outgoing friend requests?
This information can be found inside your Bungie Friends area on Bungie.net using a web browser underneath the Bungie Friend sub-section.
According to the website, no. I think I might have tried sending sabo one when trying to solve the problem.
Hi again,
Could you also try turning off Crew Privacy to see if that helps?
If it does not, can you grab a short video from inside Marathon showing your Connections area and confirming that you don't have any pending or outgoing friends requests there?
Please use your platform's capture button to take a video. You can upload the footage to a public video hosting site, like YouTube, then post the link here.
You can also try logging into Destiny 2, attempt to send the friend requests there, and then look at your Roster and confirm that you don't have any pending or outgoing friend requests there.
Sorry it took awhile. I've recorded both Marathon and Destiny 2. Hopefully the link to OneDrive works.
Destiny 2-2026_05_21-03_33_06.mp4 and Marathon-2026_05_21-05_31_55.mp4
The following day, everything was back to confirm/accept, not on the friend list.
