Bungie Answered
How can I change setting before tutorial?
- Bungie Account Name - Deltarus#1636,
- Platform - Steam
- Description of Issue - I was playing pretty smoothly with the preset setting of the game. I was in the first house in tutorial, stayed there and tried to see if I could optimize the setting. Then I tried changing from FSR to CMAA 100%, and the "time skew maxed" screen emerged and I cannot start the tutorial anymore. (The game doesn't crash, I just cannot start the tutorial).

Hi there,
Thanks for reaching out.
The “time skew maxed” screen usually points to a graphics or settings issue, and since this started right after switching from FSR to CMAA, the first step is to fully reset your settings outside the tutorial.
Because you can’t get into the tutorial anymore, please try resetting your config file directly:
Close the game and Steam completely.
Reset your settings file
On Windows, press Windows key + R, type
%appdata%and press Enter.Open:
Bungie→Marathon→unknown_local→prefs.Find and delete
cvars.xml(andcvars.oldif it exists). This only resets local settings; it will not delete your account or progress.Restart Steam and launch Marathon again. The game will recreate that file with safe default settings.
Lower settings before starting the tutorial again
From the main lobby (before launching the tutorial), open Settings → Video.
Set the overall graphics preset to Low and avoid heavy options (like high anti‑aliasing or high resolution scale) at first.
Once the tutorial runs smoothly, you can gradually increase settings again.
If the “time skew maxed” screen still appears after these steps, please grab a short video showing:
Selecting the tutorial from the menu and the error appearing, and
Let us know the rough time and time zone of the attempt, plus your full PC specs (CPU, GPU, RAM, Windows version)
Please use your platform's capture button to take a video. You can upload the footage to a public video hosting site, like YouTube, then post the link here and we’ll be glad to take a look
Thank you very much, it's resolved now.
