Parental Controls Help

I've purchased the game for my son (12 years old) and find myself unable to access the parental controls. He is able to send me the invite, but when I click accept from i get stuck in an endless loop verifying kws. It states I have previously authenticated, send me an email stating I am verified for Bungie, then returns me to the page where I have to accept the invite from my son.

    Hi there,

Young players (aged under 13, or their country’s age of digital consent) will need to link their account with a parent, guardian, or other responsible adult’s account in order to access certain features, such as joining text or voice chat. The parent, guardian or other responsible adult needs to have a Bungie.net account and verify that they are an adult.

Please review our Date of Birth Requirements article for more information and setup instructions:

If you are encountering issues after setting up Parental Controls, there might be an issue with the Parental Control settings on the platform you use to play. Please reach out to your platform's support team for assistance with troubleshooting your platform's Parental Control settings.

  • I appreciate the speedy response but I need more than a copy pasted reply without reading my post. I'm unable to set up parental controls through bungies website due to a loop in the process.

I've found a reddit post that includes a video of the exact issue I'm having

I just want to play the game with my son, and this is making me unable to do so

  • Hey guys. I wanted to let you know I’m having the exact same problem as Cancer. I’ve seen the Reddit video as well and it’s exactly the same behavior when clicking “Accept” for the invitation. I’ve tried incognito and different browsers and still I’m unable to complete the process

  • Yeah I've tried incognito, multiple browsers, as well as resetting credentials for KWS and re-verifying my age.

  • Hi there,

Since you’ve already tried incognito, multiple browsers, and re-verifying your age with KWS, here are a few steps that you can try next:

    • Make sure you’re:
      • Logged into your adult Bungie.net account in the browser (not your child’s account).
      • Logged into the same email on the KWS side that you’re using for your Bungie parent account.

    • If you’ve ever had more than one Bungie account, fully log out of all Bungie tabs, close the browser, then reopen and log in only with your intended parent account.

    • Instead of just clicking Accept on your child’s invite:
      1. Go to and sign in with your parent account.
      2. Go to Settings → look for Parental Controls / Permissions.
      3. See if your child’s account / invite is listed there, and try to accept it from that page.
    • When it sends you to KWS to verify, complete that process once, then let it redirect you back—don’t manually close the tab.

    • On one device, do this:
      • Log out of Bungie.net and KWS completely.
      • Clear cookies just for Bungie.net and the KWS consent site (not your whole browser, if you don’t want to).
    • Then:
      • Use a different device and network if possible (e.g., your phone on mobile data instead of the same home PC/Wi-Fi).
      • Open the invite email on that device, tap Accept, and walk through the KWS verification again.

  • Tried all above steps via multiple devices without success. The KWS authentication page still redirects to the parental controls page, where I have to click to accept the invite again.

Bought my son the game with the sole intention of playing together as a family, and it's looking like that won't be possible.

Is there any way you guys can manually bypass the child restrictions on his account?

  • Hi there,

Unfortunately, we cannot we can’t manually bypass or remove child restrictions on an account.

the best next step is to have our privacy specialists look directly at your Bungie.net account and how it’s linked to KWS:

    1. Go to the Bungie Data Privacy Request form here:
      https://help.bungie.net/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=360000423291

    2. Use the option related to Correct my data

    3. In the description, include:

      • That you’re stuck in a KWS verification loop when accepting your child’s Parental Controls invite.

      • That KWS emails say you’re verified for Bungie, but you’re always sent back to the invite page.

  • Just to update the other user who was having the same issue, submitting the privacy data form as instructed led to no fix. We're shit out of luck as Bungie reply was "... additional troubleshooting assistance in this matter is limited" when given step by step instructions to recreate the problem, alongside photo and video evidence. I'll have to refund my son's copy as we can't play together

  • I also am having this problem. I just want to correct my childs date of birth. we cannot join each other's game. this is so stupid. i want to like this game, bought it for him. he saved money to get it and now we cannot play together. im stuck in this loop, i verified im human, but im unable to approve his multiplayer options. bungie is sure making it hard to just play together. thats what i get for using his actual date of birth. now there is no way to change it, no way for us to play together. thanks bungie.
