Constant Game Crash on PC since today 17 Mar 26

  • Bungie Account Name - alex#6101
  • Platform - Steam
  • Description of Issue - Game crashes constantly and randomly ingame. Not in the menu, only in the game itself. No root cause or pattern detectable. Just random crashes. Sometimes after 5min, most often after some seconds to a minute. Graphics freezes, I hear still 1-2 secs of voice chat, then it simply returns to Desktop. No error code or something similar. Happens on every map, no matter if Rook or as team. Could not finish a single game. Lost ~5k of loadout on the first crash right after 2 min of playing my first game today. Server Slam crashed every 2-3 days, ok. Release crashed every couple of hours, ok. But this now is completely unplayble. Please fix this or rollback asap!

Specs:

Processor    Intel(R) Core(TM) Ultra 9 285K

Installed Physical Memory (RAM)    64.0 GB

GPU Nvidia Geforce RTX 5070 Ti

OS Windows 11

Yes, I read your troubleshooting guide, reinstalled completely, updated Nvidia Drivers, restarted and everything. It's a bug in the game, and as I see lots of other people have the same issues since the patch.

  • I am experiencing the exact same issue, with the exact same system specs.

Also reinstalled the game, updated Nvidia drivers, made sure to close everything that was running except for Marathon. Multiple system restarts as well.

I had zero problems with the server slam or the retail game until today's patch.

However, I am unable to attach .dmp files here but if needed just give me heads up.

  • I'm getting the same issue. I sent some footage to Bungie but am yet to get a response other than their automated one :/

  • I am also having the same issue I am crashing every 1-3 minutes of playtime after this most recent update!

  • Hello everyone, I fixed it.
Thank you InFamousKID for this log dump as I dont have it on my PC and it told me enough to resolve the issue.

Please update your BIOS and Intel ME via ME Update Tool assuming you are running Intel CPU. I dont use AMD so I cant help there.

The issue might also be with undervolting your CPU, I did not test it yet as I have put all my BIOS settings to default and just enabled XMP/EXPO

    Game works now.

  • Same issue for me, since the latest patch. Game crashes within the first few seconds of a match.
    Tired with no success :

    - Verifying game files

    - Updating drivers

    - Reinstalling the latest version of Windows (as suggested here : https://help.marathonthegame.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/47140743936148-Crash-to-desktop-Signing-in)
    - Running as admin

    - Reinstaling battle eye

Since reinstalling battle eye, crashes now occur before my character even spawns in (only tried twice for sample size)

  • Tommy, livesaver!

Fix for me for now was simply updating most probably the Intel Manangement Engine, and some other drivers that my mainboard that didn't sound like they are involved. I never touched anything in my Bios except the Intel Rapid Storage for raid. And I did no Bios update and no voltage tuning.

I did now 4 runs in a row without a crash, and I hope so much that this is the final fix.

    Thank you very much!

  • Perfect that means we pin pointed the issue to Intel Manangement Engine. Teamwork is dreamwork :D.

  • Yeah seems that was the issue, played the whole evening, only a single crash hours ago.

I hope other players find that fix, since it seems alot of people are affected.

And I hope Bungie checks that too, because it is was clearly introduced with the last patch.

  • Unfortunately, I ran all my updates, including Intel Management Engine, and everything else available for my mainboard, and no luck, still crashing :(

  • Similar to Vampyre - tried everything listed in this thread, average uptime is around 2 min once in a game. Map doesn't matter - just crashes over and over again.

  • Not having a USB drive, i could only try updating intel ME today, which did not resolve the issue. Checked BIOS and "ME FW" did correctly update to the latest version
