[Quality of Life] [Gameplay Suggestion] [Controller Accessibility] – UI Gear Comparison, Shield Recharge Mechanic, and Controller Presets
First, I want to say I'm really excited about Marathon and the direction Bungie is taking with the game.
I wanted to share a few suggestions that could improve both gameplay flow and overall accessibility for players, especially those on console.
1. UI / Loadout Comparison Feature
It would be extremely helpful if players could compare their currently equipped loadout with items stored in their vault directly from the UI with a single button press.
A comparison system similar to what exists in Destiny 2 would make managing gear much faster and more intuitive. Players could quickly evaluate stat differences, perks, and build options without needing to manually swap items or navigate multiple menus.
This would significantly improve the overall quality-of-life when managing builds and experimenting with gear.
2. Shield Recharge Gameplay Mechanic
I would recommend implementing a shield behavior similar to systems players are familiar with from Halo and Destiny 2.
Suggested behavior:
If a player's shield takes damage but is not completely broken, it should automatically begin regenerating after a short delay once the player stops taking damage.
If the shield is fully broken, it should not regenerate automatically and instead require a consumable item to restore it.
This would reward tactical disengagement and positioning during combat while still keeping resource management important when shields are completely depleted.
3. Controller Accessibility – Preset Control Layouts
For console players, it would be extremely beneficial to include preset controller layouts similar to the options available in Destiny 2.
For example, presets such as:
Bumper Jumper
Tactical
Default
Other accessibility-focused layouts
Many console players are already accustomed to these preset configurations, and including them would make it much easier for players to transition into Marathon without needing to manually remap every input.
Controller presets also help support accessibility and comfort for different playstyles, especially for players who rely on layouts like Bumper Jumper for movement and combat efficiency.
Thank you for the continued work on Marathon. I’m excited to see how the game evolves and appreciate the effort the team puts into listening to community feedback.

Hi there,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and ideas for Marathon!
While we appreciate your feedback, the best place to share it is on the Marathon Discord rather than our Help Forums. If you haven't already done so, please share your feedback and suggestions there.
Thanks a lot!
