FPS Drop and CPU Usage

GPU usage is low while CPU usage is at maximum.
FPS fluctuates between 40 and 50. Outposts are particularly bad, only managing 30 FPS.

CPU:i5 9400f

GPU:1660ti

    Hi there,
    Thanks for the report.

We’re tracking performance feedback like this and are continuing to work on optimizations, but there are a few things you can try in the meantime if your CPU is pegged while GPU usage stays low:

    Check drivers and background apps
Make sure your GPU drivers and Windows are fully up to date.
Close background apps that can hit CPU (web browsers, capture tools, overlays, Discord, RGB/monitoring software, etc.).
    Adjust in‑game settings
Lower or disable CPU‑heavy options first (shadows, view distance/LOD, foliage, reflections) and any high‑cost post‑processing.
Try reducing resolution scale or turning off frame caps / V‑Sync to see if your GPU usage climbs and FPS stabilizes.
    Power / thermal checks
Confirm your CPU isn’t thermal‑throttling (high temps causing it to slow down).
Set your Windows power plan and GPU control panel to “High performance” while playing.

  • I assumed Bungie Support was just a bot until I saw this comment since all the comments made under performance issues are all exactly the same. Everyone who is experiencing this issue has already tried these steps before coming here to make a report. The Marathon subreddits are filled with multiple posts reporting the same thing. No amount of reducing settings is giving any improvement on performance. How is it possible that there is zero gain in FPS when DLSS is on Ultra Performance compared to DLSS being completely off, it just doesn't make sense, I have never seen that once in any game since DLSS 1 was first introduced. This is directly a game engine issue, not people's drivers. There is specific recommended hardware requirements on your product pages, yet many people are getting below 60 fps even if they well exceed the recommended requirements. This is extremely misleading to customers. The dev team has stated they've been aware of the issue since the server slam. We just got an update last night, yet still no update from the devs on where they are at on fixing this issue. Can we please please please get the devs to make a statement about whats actually going on here/give us an update/give us tips from the actual people who worked on the game. "We are continuing to work on optimization" doesn't instill much confidence that  the issue will ever be fixed because it just sounds like an auto-response bot when its the exact same comment on every single performance report on this forum. A lot of people paid for a product, but can barely play on Dire Marsh/Outpost because frames drop way too low to actually perform properly during gun fights in thisPVP focused game.
