Latest amd drivers prevent game from launching

Bungie Account Name - Loaf0021#5192 Platform - Steam

Description of Issue - game launches to a black screen then kicks player out.

Rough Date and Time of issue- 10/23/2026, 8pm est.

Repro steps - Updated AMD drivers to version 26.10.1, to my knowledge other players are having the same issue and I was playing the game the day before updating the drivers just fine.

Specs: ryzen 5900xt,rtx 7700 xt,32 gigs ram.

Edit: rolling back drivers fixes issue*

I had the exact same issue. You can fix it by deleting your game's configuration file, which is located here:

%APPDATA%\Bungie\Marathon\prefs\cvars.xml

Just press Win + R, paste the folder path, and delete cvars.xml. The game will regenerate it when you launch it again.

In my case, I eventually traced the issue specifically to AMD FSR Frame Generation. If you're using that, you can also try changing frame_generation_mode from 2 to 0 in the XML file instead. That fixes the black screen without resetting all your other settings.
