Networking and Connection Issues
We've been seeing some reports of networking issues in Marathon and are continuing to dig in and investigate. If you've been experiencing any issues (lag, rubberbanding, etc.) please send us the following information in this thread:
- Bungie ID
- When it occurred
- What timezone you're in
- A description of what happened (Were you jumping? Mantling? etc.)
- A clip or screenshot of the issue
Thank you!

I'll just include all of the information from my original post:
I've logged 341 hours of playtime in Marathon, and I do really enjoy the game. But ever since I started playing since launch, there's been constant and consistent rubber-banding and lag. By this point I've adapted to it and stopped noticing it but whenever someone else plays on my setup they're like WTF. I do often get frustrated by it, especially in those heated moments where it made me lose a lot of good stuff.
I do believe it is related to my internet, however it's quite inconsistent and not on all online shooter games I've played. So far, Destiny 2, Valorant, Team Fortress 2, and Deep Rock Galactic do NOT have rubber-banding. The only games that DO rubber-band for me are Deadlock and Marathon. That's really what has me confused and makes me think that there might be some server-side solution for it.
I recorded a video compilation of a typical run on Marathon, showcasing the issue in-game: https://youtu.be/U55e4a9OYNU
Variables that I think could cause/affect it:
- I'm on OCE Servers.
- My connection is part of a campus-wide university Wi-Fi network.
- My Wi-Fi connection has no IPv6 address.
- In all of the games I tested above I had low ping, but high packet loss.
I made a post only now rather than earlier because I saw that Bungie was wanting to hear more about issues in this space when they occur, and figured now would be the best time for it. I'm completely open to any questions, or just tell me that you can't do anything about it, I'm kind of expecting that nothing happens with this. I no longer get this issue if I log in on another Wi-Fi network, but that's kind of obvious and doesn't really help people who can't simply change their ISP on a dime (like me right now).
I went through the guide, and listed a few notes about it.
- I'm unable to enact any of the main troubleshooting changes, as I do not control my ISP or what devices connect to the network.
- Because my Wi-Fi connection is campus-wide, there are large amount of devices connected to the network at the same time.
- I am unable to swap to a wired connection as my dorm room has no ethernet compatibility.
The only thing I have control over is that I usually have Discord open in the background when playing Marathon, but that's pretty obviously not the cause of the issue. It's pretty clear that the university Wi-Fi has something going on where either due to the sheer number of connected devices, poor upload/download speed, distance from the modem, or a combination of all/other variables, that it's causing that high packet loss and unstable connection.
It took me a while to want to make a post for it because I knew that there is seemingly nothing I can do, so it felt like it'd be kind of a waste. But after testing those other games (such as Valorant), where I didn't have the rubber-banding, it had me curious about what server-side difference there is between those other games' host servers that fixes this issue.
Direct answers for this thread's requirements:
Bungie Account Name - Fadedblackout#1571
Platform - PlayStation 5
Description of Issue - random server connection lost right after Infil on Outpost, wouldn’t let me sign back in, ‘Servers Unavailable’, ‘More Information: 0’ - my internet connection was fine on all other devices. Very frustrating because I just obtained level 30, and was using said gear after claiming it from the Codex. After 5 minutes, still wouldn’t let me sign back in. Restarting my console fixed the issue, but when I finally signed back in, the first screen was the ‘Run Report’. It said I was in the server for 7+ mins when it literally happened within 1 min of the run beginning.
Rough Date and Time of issue - Time of date: October 8th, 2026 @ 8:05 AM EST (5:05 AM PST)
Repro steps - I did not take any steps to cause the issue, I was kicked out of the server and lost all my obtained gear from claiming the codex entry of reaching level 30.
Nobody answer to you guys
My issue here has no reply for a week
Solved by myself
Do not rely on Bungie support. They dont
Oh, i'm not alone. I have this problem to. I can't get into the game for a week an my nightingale changet to yam that didn't changed anything....
Seshdel
Use GearUp Booster
It solves nightingale in 100% cases
Btw Urfin256 how did you solve this problem with the game?
Troubles signing in + connection issues.
GMT+2
Almost every day, usually in the evenings. 11.10.2026 happened after 19:00 GMT+2. Unsolved for 3 hours still. Cannot get into the game, multiple error codes. Sometimes it just disappears and game runs smoothly.
On launch: always error codes: yam + centipede. After that it usually launches.
Then it's usually okay for 2-3 hours. Then I get "Connecting to Marathon servers" and weasel.
Then - usually it's impossible to get into the game. Connection errors are: yam, yam, yam, chicken, centipede, centipede, yam, yam, tam, centipede, centipede.
Marathon rebooted, PC rebooted, router rebooted, steam cache cleared, steam files verified. No changes for now.
Additionally:
Me and my husband, connected to the same network. I have direct LAN connection, he's on Wi-Fi. Errors appear for both of us, but differ in *when* they appear. Sometimes I can log in and get into the game and he gets yams. Sometimes he logs in and I get yams.
Update on 22:20 GMT +2: after 2~ hours husband logged in, UI is lagging. I cannot log in. Then I logged in, husband got weasel and centipedes. I got weasel now.
