If friend requests cannot be accepted or declined, that does line up with a real issue pattern rather than simple user error. There are already Marathon player reports where accepting a friend request appears to do nothing, the request stays there instead of clearing, and the friend is not actually added.
There are also reports of this happening across more than one surface, including Marathon itself, Bungie.net, and the Destiny 2 app, which makes it sound more like a backend/social-system problem than just one bad menu interaction.
This matches other friend-request issues already seen in Marathon and we are currently investigating.
