Unable to hear players, in both proximity and crew chat

This is a very similar issue to other issues I have seen on this forum. I am unable to hear any players through the in game voice chat. I can see all of the talk indicators flashing for both myself and my team but I am unable to hear anyone. I use wireless headphones via steam.

I have followed all of the troubleshooting steps in the troubleshooting guide and other suggested fixes I have found online. I have tried setting the proper audio device in the social tab in game, restarting my headphones mid-game, turning voice chat on and off via the social tab mid-game and going to mmsys.cpl and setting my headphones as the default audio and communications device.

I will note that in mmsys.cpl my headphones show up as speakers and a headset chat. The speakers appear to be the audio output while the headset chat may be for audio input. I have tried setting the headset chat at the default communications device and the speakers as the default audio device, but that has not resolved my issues either.

This is pretty heavily affecting my experience with Marathon as I don't have friends to play with so I am relying on crew fill for team play. It would be far more enjoyable to play with random people and be able to communicate. Marathon is the only game that I have had this issue with. My headphones are Turtle Beach Stealth 600s if that is pertinent information.

    Hello there,
    Thank you for your report.

We are aware of situations where players can see the voice indicators firing but still can’t hear incoming crew or proximity chat, especially with Bluetooth/wireless headset routing involved.

It also sounds like you’ve already gone through the standard troubleshooting in a thorough way, so I don’t want to send you back through the same steps again.

We are currently looking into the situations with audio, voice, and proximity chats not behaving correctly and appreciate your patience.

If you could help us by providing some info like:

whether it happens in both crew chat and proximity chat
whether all other game audio plays normally when voice fails
whether testing with a different headset or a wired audio device changes the behavior
whether the issue started immediately or only after a specific patch / play session

We appreciate you taking the time to write this up so clearly. I will pass along your report and info to the relevant channels for further investigation.

  • I will also note that I have tried to connect my headphones with a wire and have seen no improvement.
