[PC] Voice Chat Not Working - My mic icon light up, other’s mic icons don’t - Extensive Troubleshooting done (NAT/Teredo/Mixer)

System Specs: OS: Windows 11 (Latest build) Network: Windtre Business (Italy) - ISP Router Audio Interface: Voicemeeter (for routing) + HyperX Cloud Alpha Wireless Connection: Wired Ethernet Problem Description: I am experiencing a persistent issue with the in-game voice chat in Marathon. I cannot hear any teammates, and they cannot hear me (tested with friends). My mic icon lights up in-game when I speak, but my teammates' icons NEVER light up for me. Strange Behavior: On one occasion, the voice chat suddenly started working halfway through a match, only to stop working again in the next lobby. In the Windows 11 Volume Mixer, there are two "Marathon" instances. One (game audio) is at 100%, but the second one (presumably VOIP) is stuck at volume level 1 and cannot be moved or unmuted. Troubleshooting steps already taken (None solved the issue): Network & Router (ISP Business Router): Static IP: Assigned a static lease to my PC (192.168.1.51). Port Forwarding: Manually opened UDP ports 3074 and 3097 pointing to my PC. DMZ: Temporarily enabled DMZ for my PC's IP to bypass all firewall restrictions. SIP ALG: Disabled SIP ALG in the router settings. Firewall: Set the router firewall level to "Low" and disabled DoS protections. IP Check: Confirmed I have a Public IP (WAN IP matches whatismyip results). Windows & Teredo Settings: Teredo State: Initially it was "Disabled/Offline". I manually forced it to "EnterpriseClient" via CMD. It currently shows as "Dormant". Privacy Settings: "Allow desktop apps to access your microphone" is ON. Windows Firewall: Marathon.exe is allowed on both Private and Public networks. Audio & Software: Sample Rates: All devices (Mic and Output) are synced at 24-bit/48000Hz. Default Devices: Set HyperX headset as "Default Communication Device" in the old Sound Control Panel (mmsys.cpl). Exclusive Mode: Disabled "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" for all active devices. Voicemeeter: Tested bypassing Voicemeeter entirely by setting the headset as the primary device in Windows and in-game, but the issue persists. Observations: It seems like a P2P "Hole Punching" failure or a handshake issue between my network and other peers. The fact that it worked once mid-match suggests the ports are open, but there is a severe delay or bug in how the game initializes the VOIP module on my specific network/OS. I have also checked the in-game audio settings to ensure the Voice Chat Output device is explicitly set to my headset and not 'Default', but it doesn't change the behavior.

    Hi there,
    Thank you for your report.

Could you give us some additional details to along to go along with your report?

    Your Bungie Account Name
    Your Platform
The approximate time that this happened

If you are able to record a video, you can upload it to a site like Youtube, link it to us here, and we'll be glad to take a closer look.

  • Bungie Account Name: Sislax#7564
    Platform: Steam
Approximate time: It has been happening persistently since release.

    Regarding the video recording:
Since the problem is the absence of audio, a video would mostly show silence. However, I can record a clip showing these three visual proofs of the issue:

My in-game audio settings (showing Voice Chat is enabled and the correct devices are selected).

A clip of me speaking in a lobby/match where my mic icon lights up, but my teammates' icons stay dead.

An Alt-Tab to the Windows 11 Volume Mixer showing the second Marathon instance stuck at volume level 1 while the game is running.

Would showing these visual indicators in a video be helpful for your investigation?

  • Hello there,

Yes, these indicators would be of great help in further investigating these issues.
We are aware of other audio issues surrounding team voice chat and proximity chat, so even silent videos can be helpful when there is enough detail and context to see what is happening as the audio malfunctions in order to better understand what is happening at the time these issues take place.

Thank you for your additional information.
