Destroyer Shell Shield Sometimes Failing to Deploy When Being Shot

  • Bungie Account Name - Pinbat#8276
  • Platform - Steam/PC, Mouse&Keyboard Input
  • Description of Issue - Occasionally, attempting to use the Destroyer shield ability when being shot at results in the animation starting but failing to deploy the shield. Instead, the shield undeploys in a similar way to an intentional player-initiated cancel of the shield ability, with the ability cooldown visible.
  • Rough Date and Time of issue - The clip of the bug is dated to March 29th, but I also remember it happening in a Cryo Archive run that same weekend.
  • Repro steps - Start taking damage (no idea if it has to be from NPCs or players) and then press the ability key for the shield. Not a consistent reproduction.

Please let me know if I am misunderstanding a feature or this doesn't seem like a bug--I'd appreciate any explanations of possibilities. From my POV when this situation happens it does seem like a bug. I included a link to the expected shield behavior as well, putting both clips into a media editor and looking at 1 millisecond frames, since the behavior that seemed off to me was how "long" it took for my shield to deploy and then fail to deploy.

For the expected behavior clip, it takes ~13 milliseconds from the first frame the camera starts to switch from 1st person to 3rd person to the frame where the shield lights up and a sliver of the shield is visible, mid-deployment animation (indicating to me that the shield is successfully deploying). In contrast, in the bug clip, the shield lights up but no portion of the shield is ever visible, and it takes ~19 milliseconds from the first frame the camera starts to switch from 1st person to 3rd person to the frame where I get downed.
