Consistent Bluescreen Post 3/25/2026 Devlog

Good evening to whoever this finds, my Bungie username is Rakshasa#3430 and I play on Steam/PC.

Upon opening Marathon my PC will completely crash and restart itself after a bluescreen. I've had a few game crashes before that were fixed due to previous patches, but this new "variant" of that is more extreme. This issue started at around 9:30pm on 2/25/2026, which had lead me to believe that this is not a problem with my system despite it being lower end. I have 97 hours in Marathon and aside from 2 game crashes and the well known fps issues I have never experienced anything like this. While I would like to discuss this and how to fix this extreme upset please assume that I have already performed actions such as verifying files, uninstalling and reinstalling, and updating drivers.

While I do love Marathon as an IP, and adore Bungie games in general, it is getting more difficult to support this title when it seems to do everything in it's power from preventing me and many others from having consistent enjoyable experiences.

    Hello there,
Thank you for reaching out and reporting this issue.

A full blue screen / restart usually points to a driver or OS‑level failure that’s being triggered when Marathon starts up, rather than a normal in‑game crash. To help narrow this down, could you share:
The exact Windows stop code and message from the bluescreen.
Whether you’re using any external devices or drivers beyond the basics (especially USB/external audio interfaces, capture cards, RGB or overlay tools).
Rough time of your most recent crash (with timezone) so we can line that up with internal logs.

While you’re collecting that, a few targeted tests that have helped other PC players seeing similar behavior:
Temporarily unplug / disable external audio interfaces or other non‑essential USB devices, then launch Marathon once with only keyboard/mouse (or controller) connected.
Close any overlay / monitoring tools (Discord overlay, GeForce Experience overlay, RivaTuner, etc.) before starting the game.

If you’re comfortable doing so, try a Windows clean boot (only essential services and drivers), then launch Marathon once in that state to see if the BSOD still occurs.

We will pass this report along to the team to investigate issue further.

  • Good afternoon, I appreciate the quick response!

The message/code every time the BSOD occurs is "Kernel Security Check Failure". My most recent crash was yesterday at 11:40pm CST/CDT. The only external devices being used are for my keyboard and mouse, headphones, and a usb wifi adapter. Unfortunately after both a clean boot and an attempt to open the game with only required USBs, being my keyboard and mouse, the game still sends me to the BSOD. The time of the most recent crash was 4:55 PM.

  • Good morning, I wanted to give a quick update. After reinstalling drivers again and opening the game at 7:40 PM on 03/27/2026 Marathon was perfectly fine. I was able to play until 1:27 AM on 03/29/2026, when the game bluescreened my PC again, and as of sending this message the game is back to bluescreening when I try to open Marathon.
