Severe screen tearing with VSync ON but only on full screen. Impossible to run game as borderless windowed
(edited: better phrasing)
- Bungie Account Name: Whizzing Spoon#7712
- Platform: Steam
- Description of Issue:
Before the latest patch, I managed to fix VSync by messing around with many video setting combos, especially fullscreen and windowed modes, and if I remember correctly, VSync worked just fine when windowed mode was forced to fullscreen with Windows’ ALT+ENTER shortcut. Sadly, I tried so many settings combinations that day that I’m not 100% sure.
After the lastest patch, VSync seemed to keep working. Today, 26.03 around 1 pm CET, I adjusted in game brightness mid-run and instantly after that VSync stopped working. ON or OFF, it doesn’t affect tearing. Additionally, visible tearing is very strong, stronger than in other games with VSync OFF.
Turning the game off and on didn’t help either, just like checking file integrity through Steam.
The only way to make VSync work is switching to Windowed mode. Sadly, the game detects when you try to force Windowed mode into Full Screen/borderless windowed through Windows’ shortcut (ALT+ENTER) and adjusts video settings itself to Full Screen - breaking VSync in the process.
There is no borderless windowed mode, and playing with the Windows bar isn’t something I’m looking for.

- Rough Date and Time of issue: 26.03 1pm CET
- Repro steps: Switching to full screen mode or forcing windowed mode to full screen with Windows' ALT+ENTER. VIDEO

bro, they dont even reply...
@校医院也有B超 Luckily, people on Reddit are more keen to help - setting CPU priority to highest and disabling access to CPU 0 in Task Manager for Marathon.exe fixed my screen tearing problem. Performance still sucks though, about ~5% FPS difference between highest and lowest, CPU clocked to 100% all the time.
