Crash at first launch when opening System Settings / Brightness / Chat

1. Issue Description:
The game crashes to desktop without any error message when trying to interact with the menu for the first time. Specifically, after launching the game and either:

  • Clicking on "System Settings" in the main menu, or

  • Trying to adjust brightness / chat during the initial calibration

the game closes immediately.

2. Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Launch the game via Steam.

  2. Skip the intro videos / splash screens.

  3. In the main menu, click the Settings icon (or attempt to adjust brightness/chat during initial setup).

  4. The game crashes to desktop with no error message.

3. What I Have Tried (No Success):

  • Disabled all antivirus software (including Windows Defender)

  • Ran the game as administrator and disabled fullscreen optimizations in Marathon.exe properties

  • Disabled all overlays (Steam, Discord, NVIDIA GeForce Experience, Xbox Game Bar)

  • Verified game file integrity through Steam

  • Updated GPU drivers to the latest version

  • Installed all Microsoft Visual C++ redistributables (x86 and x64) and updated DirectX

  • Renamed/deleted the game config folder in %appdata% and Documents

  • Changed DNS to resolve possible Tapir error

4. System Information:

Spec Details

OS Windows 11 Pro (22H2)
CPU AMD Ryzen 5 7500F
GPU NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 (12 GB)
RAM 32.0 GB
System Type 64-bit
Game Installation Drive SSD (NVMe)
Internet Connection Wired (Ethernet)

5. Additional Information:
The crash occurs on the very first launch of the game. I have never successfully launched the game beyond the main menu. Other modern games (including Unreal Engine 5 titles) run without any issues.

    Hello,

Thanks for reporting this. I'm really sorry to hear your game keeps crashing at the home screen and settings menu. We have identified a rise in crash reports of the sort since the update and are currently looking into the underlying cause of this. In the meantime, reinstalling the game may help to reduce or resolve the crashing you experience. Thank you for your patience and support while we work on this!

Please also note that Marathon may not be able to run on laptops, if that is your case.
