Lost all my items because I borrowed them to a friend.

Bungie tag is HannyaHalo#3456, me and my friend both played on Steam. It happened today 3/22/2026 at about 1:30 PM and 2:00 PM Central European Standard Time

So I was running Cryo Archive with a friend of mine and we were attempting some of the prestige tier vaults. Naturally with a prestige key on the line we went in with everything we had, however one of my regulars wasn't available to play that day so we got in a substitute. They didn't have a decked out vault like we did so I decided to bring into the run a bunch of gear for them to stand a better chance on our run. The unique prestige DRRT SMG, a prestige leg implant, 2 more superior implants for chest and head, some healing items, a self revive, and a purple shield. It was a very difficult run, we ran into every squad on the map and didn't have enough time left to solve the puzzle inside the vault. So we cut our losses and managed to exfil with 5 seconds left to spare. I was overcome with joy that we managed to beat the odds and made it out in the nick of time, even if we did waste a prestige key. However, I check my inbox and only 3 of my items made it back. My purple shield, my superior chest implant, and my prestige leg implant. Like, whatever, I'd say that gear gave us the edge necessary to win all those engagements, so even though I lost those items it was well worth it. We had a spare Vault 3 key, we could just try again. So we did and I brought in said 3 items that made it back after the first run. But this time there was NOTHING in my inbox. Again not mad that I lost those items, I was more than happy to give them to my friend, however, this is a pretty serious issue and even worse I'm unsure if this is an intended feature. Both times we exfiltrated my friend confirmed he didn't take off ANY of the gear he borrowed from me, and the "borrowed" tag was on all of his gear when we exfiltrated. I don't mind losing my gear, this game is very well balanced and almost every death carries a lesson with it. It's quite rare that you die to pure bad luck and even those can be better planned for. But what really sucks is when the game breaks. There is no lesson to be learned, there is nothing you could've done. If this is intended, please make it more explicitly clear that certain borrowed items will not be returned on exfil, if it is a bug, please fix it as soon as possible. This is an extraction shooter. Nothing feels worse than when it's the games fault you lost. I'm not even asking for those items back, again I don't care that much about them, but for the game's health this should be addressed as soon as possible. I know others will not. .be as tolerant as me.

UPDATE: I've gotten all the items listed above back, it just took literal days to arrive. I got my Superior head implant back 3 days later and my prestige leg implant back 6 days later from what I was able to record. Not sure when my other items arrived but they were delayed by multiple days as well. I can only assume that the way the game tracks ownership of items is by assigning each item you exfil with a specific tag tied to your account which is saved on a server somewhere, and like quite literal mail when a teammate exfils with your gear it uses this tag to find which player it belongs to and sends them the item. However to avoid the servers slowing down as a result of an excess amount of data being sent through it, if a person exfiltrates with multiple borrowed items they are put into a "queue" until it can be sorted out. This is purely hypothetical however since I obviously didn't make the game, and was just the first plausible explanation that came to mind for why this happens.

  • same thing happened to me, I lost 6-8 purple shields and a bunch of self revives along smaller consumables when sharing them from my vault in cryo with my friends, it feels awful especially with the time sink getting those are
