Returned Equipment Should Only Apply To Teammates, Not Opponents

Hi Bungie, I just did a trio run on Perimeter where I was killed (full dead) and my gun was looted. My teammate managed to revive me from full dead where I found the opponent's gun was in my loadout. I saw the icon symbols stating that it would be returned upon exfil.

So the opposing team took my gun and was able to have their gun returned to them upon me exfilling out of the map. I exfilled successfully and was not given the gun because it was returned to the opposing team. I'm not sure if it's an intended feature or a bug but I feel like the returned gear feature should only apply to sharing with teammates and not opposing runners. It essentially serves as a return or insurance policy for you deciding to leave your gun on a dead body instead of taking it with you.
